I've seen a lot of matchmake players running into problems when doing legendary summit with 5+ directives, and I figure it's time to write something down that will help identify and fix those problems. So, here goes:

1. DPS and You.

If you are running a DPS build (yellow, red, or both), you should be able to shoot down a flanking enemy - period. Running scopes and shooting distances is fine, but it works more for legendary missions, as opposed to summit where 3 enemies and a chungus and warhound can appear from a door you walked past. If your DPS build cannot handle flankers, then it is not quite so viable for legendary summit. Sure, if you have a squad who covers that or uses voice you may be fine, but in most matchmake and EVEN Div 2 discord matchmakes, people will not mesh that well.

A DPS build that "bursts" enemy (including most Elites) down is better in most cases than a ranged DPS build that cannot burst anyone down at close range. Again, legendary missions =! legendary summit.

2. Tunnel Vision.

Easily the biggest problem most folks have. DPS, skill damage, tank, whatever - if you're focusing on shooting an enemy far away and CANNOT down them in, say, 3-5 seconds, then you put the team at risk. I've seen so many instances where players will get tunnel vision and an enemy literally walks up beside or behind them and drops them. If you wanna fight at range, take time when reloading to look around at your surroundings, to make sure you don't get flanked.

3. Hazard Protection and Disrupt/Bleed resistance.

These are unironically good. With enough Disrupt and Bleed resistance, you can facetank special ammo carriers who would normally bust your shield. You can also get close to the Chungus, since his hive and special ammo will not bother you. Try and incorporate them into your builds if possible.

If done right, you can easily group or solo legendary summit with 5-7 directives, more if you're a masochist or hate skill builds lol.
