    Question about the Police UMP-45

    Hi folks!

I've just discovered the SMG Police UMP-45, and on this build, the damage is CRAZY!

    My question is:

What's the difference between the Police UMP-45 and the Tactical UMP-45?

    They look identical to me.
DMG, RPM, Range, Reload Time, etc.

Typically, differences between variants of the same weapon model are recoil control and mod slots.

    Thanks.

That's the main difference between Police, Tactical and Military versions?

Differences can include damage and mag size, though as you can see from the Base Weapon Damage tab of this spreadsheet that's not the case for the UMP-45 models. (The Vectors are an example of where the damage per round, and thus the DPS, varies over the models.)

The sheet doesn't list a Military UMP-45, just Police and Tactical versions, and in a score of SMG pickups recently (I happened to be working in an area with targeted loot) I got only a Police and a Tactical version. Both have the same attachement points as well: long optics rail, .45 ACP magazine slot, long underbarrel rail and .45 muzzle slot.

Unfortunately the Police one I picked up is Specialized (purple), unlike the High-End Military one I found, so I'm not sure that they're completely comparable, but the Police version has a smidgen less stability and slightly slower reload time. This wasn't particularly noticable in the range; both had recoil that seemed fairly easy to control and the lack of accuracy on the un-modded weapons made the recoil issues moot.

I don't see off-hand what makes the UMP-45 particularly better in this role than any other SMG, though I'm' not so familiar with SMGs so I might be missing something. I was thinking it might be the low fire rate to help conserve ammo, but the T821 has an even slightly lower fire rate and also significantly higher DPS (including sustained DPS, due to the faster reload).

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

To be clearer on this choice, on this build, when the talent (Close & personal) is active, on body shots only, I get :

    A DPS of 6 293 599 and a CRIT of 911 640 a bullet.
And after the Named guy dropped (in the shooting range), I still have 20 bullets left in the magazine.

But I'm farming for this T821, now. =)
    Thanks for the advice!

Oh, this build is your design, then? I didn't realize that. From the testing you describe it sounds as if you're going about things the right way.

Two things when giving or seeking advice on builds: you should describe what weapon mods you're using, and it would also help greatly (especially for those of us not so familiar with the general type of build, e.g., me vs. SMGs) if you explain the reasoning behind your choices in the build and what particular strengths you're aiming at, such as conserving ammo or taking down a certain level of enemy with a single mag.

As an example, I sometimes use an SMG as a backup weapon and in that case I use Unwavering talent (+300% weapon handling for 5 sec after switching to it, refreshed with every kill). In that case mag size is unimportant to me (reload is almost instant after a switch) but the highest possible DPS, without taking into account reload, is desirable in order to help keep getting kills within that five second window. So I go for the higher-damage Vectors (Tactical Vector SBR 9 mm or, failing that, Vector SBR .45 ACP) because they have significantly higher DPS than any other SMG I've found so far. I'll typically mod it with an ACOG scope to extend the range a bit (since the weapon handling also gives it very high accuracy and stability) and then just crit-helpful things for the others, though I may use the scope giving further crit chance in a crit-focused build. The weapon does chew through ammo like mad (chaining five or six enemies can use a third or more of your total inventory ammo), but since it's a backup weapon for shorter-range use, and I'm usually at longer ranges using my rifle, this is livable.

I haven't played for a while but when I did I was always making SMG builds because run and gun was most fun for me and the thing I liked most when it comes to UMP45 and T821 is using the Strained talent. Because of the slower RPM you make the MOST out of the talent and once you get going it gets brutal. Just be sure to also use extended .45 acp magazine attachment as well.

Close and Personal : Killing a target within 7 meters grants +30% weapon damage for 10 seconds.
Strained : Gain +10% critical hit damage for every 0.5 seconds you are firing. Stacks up to 5 times.

Close and Personal give me an instant 30% weapon damage, that stays as long as I kill someone every 10 seconds.
Strained give me, at best, 50% Critical Hit Damage... every second bullet (60% Critical Hit Chance).

    Hummmm....
I have to test this on the field... or at the shooting range! =))

    Thanks for the clue!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    UPDATE
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Tested on the shooting range (body shots only) :

    Close and Personal
    DPS : 6 015 511
    CRIT : 951 174

    Strained
    DPS : 5 768 213
    CRIT : 935 874

As long as I get my first kill at very close range (7 meters), I think Close and Personal give me a slightly better DPS. =)))
