I mostly do Raids, Legendary, or conflict, so may influence choices.

    ASR: Capacitor

    LMG: Pestilence

    SMG: Lady Death

    Pistol: Regulus

    Shotgun: Scorpio

    Rifle: The Ravenous

    Sniper Rifle: Nemesis

Only one, and I would have to take the Scorpio since it can stagger enemies even in weak loadouts.

I used a Level 30 Negotiator's Build with Diamondback to breeze through the first 6 levels of WONY. Granted, I don't use it much anymore, but that's because I fell in love with EB+PfE.
Nah, it's still stupid crap compared to Virginian.

It was more or less viable while Golden Bullet. Without it - no, thanks.

Your lack of creativity or ability to conceptualize anything outside your preferences is well noted and apparent by your regular posting

Your lack of ability to provide adult discussion without trying to make it personal bulling is well noted too, no worries.

Says the "hurr durr stupid" poster

I noticed a distinct lack of refutation of any of my Diamondback points - I'd happily debate the pros and cons

As I said before, Virgininan is way better.
You just can't create a build with lots of CHD and with few CHC* - I tried and still has 55-59% CHC. SO why even bother with 5-rounds trash with snake on the barrel?

    * with only 1 exception: you will swap CHC for HSD or even handling, but that kind of builds is even more niche than regular CHC-CHD rifle builds. For me, if build ain't work for at least for half of content - is trash and not worth to even mention.

On the AR side of the house, I was thinking of farming for the improved Big Horn...is it worth it???

Glad you can read, and make a point. It's not my fault you can't build a non-CHC Rifle build

The whole point of exotics, are that they accentuate niche builds! I was specifically referencing your exception - you should hang out with SirDogCow - he also prefers all-around builds instead of niche builds

Also, the Virginian is not "way" better. Its simply better for a full crit Rifle build. The Diamondback pulls ahead when you build & play to it's talents [again, the point of Exotics]. It's cool if you don't want to [I haven't in a long time] - but you can't deny the power that can be achieved when you can trade CHC for HS.

    Not really.
It's strong on paper, but in reality it has insane recoil. Pretty logical for a weapon, mentioned for headshots...
So you will need to invest in handling. So opt out of damage talent on chest. And will get the same result as you can get with regular AR build and regular AR.

    Opinion/Advice

    A. What is the best exotic per category below?

    B. If you could only own one weapon (per account/user name) below, what would it be and why ?

ASR: The Bighorn, The Eagle Bearer, Chameleon, Capacitor

    LMG: Bullet King, Pestilence

    SMG: Lady Death, Chatterbox, Backfire

    Pistol: Liberty, Regulus

    Shotgun: Sweet Dreams, Scorpio

    Rifle: Merciless, Diamondback, The Ravenous

    Sniper Rifle: Nemesis. Mantis

ASR: Bighorn is not that good. The EB was nerfed hard and not as good. Chameleon is strong especially with Hunter's Fury and running close range. Capacitor is great for skill builds and allows you do have a reliable firearm when using skill builds.

LMG: Bullet King has a large capacity and firerate, not much damage tho. The named item good times is way better for a rapid reload weapon. Pestilence is great now and used in a number of builds.

SMG: Lady Death is really good and effective. Chatterbox is lackluster. Backfire can work with the right build, but it often can kill you.

Pistol: Liberty is great for tank builds. Regulus is excellent for one shot builds, but it takes some building to get its full potential. The Regulus is also raid exclusive.

Shotgun: Sweet dreams is often used on legendary missions where one hit can kill most non elite npc's. It has strong damage too on a red build. Scorpio is amazing especially with status builds or to use as CC.

Rifle: Merciless is in a horrible state. Honestly, I often scrap them on sight. Diamondback is a weapon that I enjoy, but often people can get as good results with a well rolled 1886. The Ravenous is a great weapon to kill tanks, robodogs, shield and a lot of pesky npc's with proxy armor or equipment. It is raid only, but its power makes it amazing.

Sniper Rifle: Nemesis is still king of patient one shot kills. I have it on all of my characters and I use it when I absolutely need to kill something on the the outer range of a field. It is a mainstay for most non-chainkiller/aces marksman builds. The Mantis is a powerful new addition that when used with a decoy and chain killer can help you to wipe out entire groups of enemies. It lacks the severe range of the Nemesis, but it is much more forgiving. Run a chainkiller with the mantis and pop heads to pop up the insane damage.

Really though, exotics are not the end all be all of weapons anymore. A number of named items can be consistently better.

ASR: Test Subject AR for Damage builds that are supported by a drone or turret. Burnout is excellent with striker or any well made AR build.

LMG: Good Times or Sleipnir. Both are great high damage LMG's that can tear targets apart. Good time has very rapid reload with a high crit build. Sleipnir is a very powerful weapon that can be crafted and optimized once the field research is complete.

SMG: Dark Winter is powerful as is Cold Relations. Both are very effective SMG's. The Dark Winter is a powerful SMG that can allow chains of high damage kills. My Cold Relations has at times hit +1 million crit headshots when fully charged with a strong build. If you can get an Apartment from the PvP side of the game, this is also a great item to have. I have one and it is devastating in PvE.

Pistol: The Mozambique Special is a great pistol It is rapid fire and very stable. Its talent allows this sidearm to be very reliable. The Orbit is PvP exclusive, but it like a number of named items can sometimes drop from Named Item Caches. Use it to finish kills to give you extremely high crit chance and damage.

Shotgun: I have heard that the Rock and Roll is a great find. I have sadly yet to get one, but I hear good things about it. The Mop is also a good weapon to have in close fights.

Rifle: The Virginian is a PvP exclusive that is a strong competitor to the Diamondback. If you want or need a rilfe that can one or 2 shot almost any NPC, this is a good choice. Everlasting Gaze is often a choice for Status Effect builds. Baker's dozen has been nerfed, but it is still decently reliable.

Marksman Rifles: The White Death is a pretty powerful named Marksman. I was lucky to get one to drop with naked. Pretty much if I use this with a chain killer, I can start a decent sequence of hitting a red NPC for 7 million crit headshot right off the bat and then killing every other elite and unfortunate soul in sequence. Typically by my 3rd
shot, I can outright kill a number of Named NPC's with 24 million damage crit headshots.(I just tested it with an Achilles Pulse in the range, it hit 50 Million on the third shot) Ekim's long stick with perfect ranger is also good for headhunter builds.

Most weapons are now fairly well balanced. Exotics are often still the outliers as far as being either really good or really bad. Still, most named weapons tend to outperform them due to being more consistently effective.
