Melee with a shield, so impressed

I saw a player take down elites with melee using a shield doing legendary how is this possible, it was a full length shield, and a pistol, I was so impressed, he was the last man standing after the choppers drop the bosses, he basically won that section all on his own, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, he had SHD watch level of just over 2k. Best player I've ever watched that's for sure, we went on to complete Roosevelt Island, he said he was very happy none of us left the mission, which he said happens so often, I try to play with better players, which I learn from, but high ShD watch level ive found out doesn't always mean there good players.

When you say the choppers dropped the bosses do you mean the heavy gunners with the hive backpacks on Roosevelt Island?

I don't have that kind of build so I have no idea what he used but it has to be some kind of tank build, maybe with protection from elites?
Again, I've got 0 knowledge in tank builds and what are the strongest sets for Legendary right now so I can't really help you.

Next time just inspect the player, take a look at his build, take a screenshot and I'm sure the build experts here will break it down for you.

A tier 6 bulwark shield, plus artificer hive can facetank Legendary Chunga - especially if they use skill cores. Liberty can add some extra insurance. With Claws Out, you boost your melee 500%. You also have options like Empress, Motherly Love, Forge, and Foundry Bulwark to further boost the strength of the shield.

The hives on the back of Legendary Chunga can be mitigated by either hazard protection or protection from elites.

The heavy was close to dead if he melee killed, even with Claws Out.

Easy build to make, and many combos work. Foundry chest, backpack, and mask, with improvised gloves, holster, and knees, all rolled with blue. 6 protection from elites mods and you’re almost unkillable.

Very effective strat is to just focus on shield health. Forge, motherly love gloves, an empress, and 3 foundry, all with Blues. Farm pieces with Haz Pro if the bleed packs are still hurting you. If no Foundry chest or BP, go 2 piece Golan and 1 Bellstone.

Some good hard hitting tank builds with some reds, but you asked about face tanking legendary heavies, so I won’t mention those.

I prefer no tank in a good group as it speeds everything up.

He would of had the "Claws out" - a named holster with 500% melee damage I got two in the last event by buying named cashes I don't know were they drop but if you doing a shield build its a must. I used it today for switching polarity and it was awesome.

If it is just a dz drop as stated above, they are pretty easy to get when its holster targetted loot dz as i see them drop in those all the time. I may make one just for a laugh for pvp an see how it goes

Also, during the current GE you can earn stars which you can trade in for Named Item Caches at the GE vendor. Those caches can also drop DZ-exclusive items.
