After driving the new cars available to me for a while (Porsche Speedster and both Z4s) I realized that I really like them. They are in no way perfect but in comparison to the other many cars there are in this game they drive nice and don't seem to needlessly punish me for small mistakes.
Some back story on my experience with TC2.
I started to play when the beta came out and even though I wasn't in tune with the game I had played TC1 and enjoyed it for its weirdness.
I had stopped playing for a while once it came out for about a year since I was more focused on other games, and when I came back I was really disappointed.
Slow steering, cars allergic to curbs/sides of country roads, having to stance the car to make it remotely enjoyable to drive, some cars just two-wheel a lot for no reason (season pass MB C63 Coupe for example), etc, etc...
I played for about a month around when the Divo Magma Edition was on the summit but started playing shortly after because the driving was just so bad.
I returned when the Summer in Hollywood update came out and I deemed the driving acceptable but still nowhere as good as it could be.
What has happened to the game? Why is the driving so unintuitive and needlessly punishing? Why do I need to tune my car in such a weird way? Why is the steering so slow?
Most of the recent cars have all been somewhat nice to drive, the Porsche Speedster two-wheels a fair bit but has good grip and the Z4 just seems like a nicely balanced car.
I'm not expecting all cars to be good but some seem needlessly uncompetitive (especially a lot of day 1 cars) just because someone put a weird value in their bodyroll handling parameter or something.
In other classes, Touring Car having two really quick cars, Alpha GP being dominated by Mark X are some of the biggest issues right now but it doesn't mean the other classes are close to being balanced.
Reading some of the patch notes shows that some cars do get special treatment and some are just left in the dust, forgotten with horrible handling because someone decided so for no reason.
Last but not least, it seems like the community has widely accepted vanity tires and widebody kits to improve the car's handling.
I can pass on the bodykits but the vanity tires are just an awful thing, especially since the store only shows two or three vanity tires weekly and rarely they are the tires that widen your car's track width for better handling.
I wish this was simply visual and I could have any tire I want. Just because the wheels look further apart I'm sure there's a way to make it not affect the car's handling and I wish the developers took some time to make the game more balanced for new and old players.
The Crew 2 has a lot of potential to be a really good game but I feel like the development team (game designers in this case) just isn't pushing this game towards the right path.
What do you think?
