That's impressive. So I guess I was wrong about how HH works! I'll give it a try. That has a lot more potential.Originally Posted by N3mB0t Go to original post
Well, as I mentioned, all that stuff is introduced over a fair amount of time. At the start, all you have is e-credits and SHD points, and the latter are more like "levelling points" (along the lines of the Borderlands skill trees) than a currency, at least to my mind.Originally Posted by Noxious81 Go to original post
Well, the Recalibration desk appears after the third Campus mission, which in what I guess to be typical play is around your 6th to 10th mission and somewhere around level 10-15. So there's at least half the Washington campaign (including the World Tiers), any time you spend in the level 30 endgame, and the entire New York campaign to learn to use it before Optimization is introduced. It's hard for me to see how, given that much time with it already, extending the period before introducing Optimization is going to help any.I have to think of this every time I inspect a player who has started optimizing really bad gear but has not yet reconfigured any attribute.... Then I think that Optimization should not be available too early in the Level-40-endgame to keep players from wasting resources... but on the other hand there are plenty of instructions and tool tips in dialog boxes which are just being ignored by too many players.
I suspect that there are a lot of people who don't want to spend much time on their gear and would rather go out and just shoot things. They're missing a lot of the game, but if it's a part of the game that doesn't interest them much, well, that's fair enough. I'm pretty convinced that this is why Story and Normal difficulty levels are so "easy" and available throughout the game, including the endgames: they're there for the folks that don't want to spend time fiddling with loadouts.
I suppose one could introduce some further missions that would train gear selection, but I'm not really sure how helpful that would be; they'd be there to reach only folks that are happy to spend time on loadouts but who for whatever reason aren't successfully learning from plain old experimentation. These might be most successful if you forced them on players before level 20 or so, while the loadouts are still fairly simple, but then you're forcing it also on folks who may not enjoy fiddling with loadouts at all.
Update and a couple of new questions...
I’m making my way through the remaining content. The Pentagon and DARPA missions were very cool... The environments were very well done. Many of the fights were great. I really despise the end mission boss fights... I cannot do them on Hard with Glass Cannon and all red. So I have another named Chest Piece called “No F’s” (I assume this comes from “No F’s to give!”) and another named backpack with mostly god rolled blue stats that between the two of them puts me in god mode LOL. So when I fail a stupid boss mission in my regular kit, I don my god mode gear and wrap it up. It takes longer to kill enemies because I’m replacing two pieces of Providence that are highly damage optimized. It’s silly, that I have magical regenerating armour that makes me almost impossible to kill but it saves me some frustration. So consider my morals compromised thanks to the crazy boss fights.
I’m enjoying the Artists Tool which is a 716 CQB with Perfect Rifleman... it would be perfect if it could equip a muzzle device. I still use a Super 90 for CQB. I’m using the TAC-50 occasionally. It’s very effective against the giant drone quadcopters like the one at the end of the Pentagon mission.
Some questions...
- I did the mission to capture the president (another cool location) but it seemed to be over without resolution (he got away). Is that how it’s supposed to go?
- I also did a Kenley College mission. It says these missions will be available for another day... is that true? How often do they come up? (BTW, one of the best prolonged firefights was in the library where you have to protect three terminals from wave after wave of enemies. Now that’s intensity without insane boss fights).
- I’ve recalibrated gear with god rolled attributes where possible meaning my only option now is optimization for the other attributes. I’m seriously lacking in the resources you get from factions (like Black Tusk). I can’t craft or buy these resources as the in-game note suggests as I don’t have blue prints, and the crafting lady is not selling any... suggestions?
- I’m on Season and watch level 87 and the season levels have some nice rewards. Will next season have a similar 100 level reward track?
Comment: it seems the bad guys have cooler outfit options than we have. I would love to get the outfit that Mercury has with a black hood and scarf but that doesn’t seem to exist in the game. Maybe it’s just me but 90% of the cosmetic apparel options seem terrible to me. I want a dark hood. I want some black pants that aren’t bloused into the boots. I wish we could change the color on apparel items like we can on gear.
Overall, I’m still enjoying the game. After I wrap up my unfinished missions in DC, I’m going back to NY to take out Saturn as I’m working on the Jupiter manhunt.
You could reference my Hunter's Fury playlist if you want some techniques for that. Although it does rely somewhat on a very aggressive playstyle. I really should get around to making a vid of DARPA and Pentagon with the M1A Glass Cannon build.Originally Posted by Virtual-Chris Go to original post
But yeah, using Unbreakable always feels too defensive to me. IMO if I can't make offense work with cover and repositioning, I feel like the encounters are bad or I've failed to play well. I used to focus on super-defense and tankiness. Bulwark Shield and pistol can make you literally unkillable on anything below heroic, but everything takes forever to die.
Yes, but that thread of the story is wrapped up in the final Manhunt mission which you probably haven't done yet.Originally Posted by Virtual-Chris Go to original post
For some nonsensical reason, Massive decided to make Kenly College use different rules for when you can play them. I don't know why. Probably because someone in leadership at Ubi/Massive smokes crack. No, I don't care if that offends someone. Kenly College is bad, and fits the game almost as bad or worse than Raids.Originally Posted by Virtual-Chris Go to original post
Optimization mats are intentionally difficult to obtain. Optimization is intended for gear that's already at 90% or higher on all attributes.Originally Posted by Virtual-Chris Go to original post
Your options are to continue to grind mats on hard, or learn/gear up until you can play on heroic and start getting drops that are already near maximum.
Or just pray to the RNG gods that a perfect drop happens on hard. Good luck.
Season 5 is a repeat of season 1, which was one of the best reward tracks IMO. But yes, future seasons will also have 100 levels of rewards. Keep in mind, however, that season 1 was a promotion that gives everyone the paid reward track for free. Future season repeats will still have a free reward track, but you will have to pay $10 for the additional reward track.Originally Posted by Virtual-Chris Go to original post
IIRC there is no way to get some of the Hunter and Rogue Agent outfit pieces. But you can browse through the apparel store and get an idea of what's available. Most items can either be gained through apparel keys that you earn through normal play, or unlocked via textile points which are earned by getting duplicate apparel unlocks. Only a handful of cosmetic items are paid with by real money.Originally Posted by Virtual-Chris Go to original post
As for specific costume pieces:
Black Pants that don't tuck into boots/shoes: Black Tie Pants, Secret Service Pants, Biker Pants
Black hoods: Agent Ann Jacket, Enforcer Hoodie, Reaper Hood.
Grey Hood: Harrier Jacket(it actually comes with a scarf, but the entire thing is a light grey not black.
Camo Hood: Reconnaissance Shirt, Rain Slicker
Yellow Hood: Seattle Jacket
All of these can be combined with various masks and neck pieces, as well as the Head option of "Always Show Mask" to create some pretty nifty outfits. Like the one I used in the M1A playlist.

What season pass are you referring to? The bottom reward track is only available if you get the US$10 season pass for that season. However, you still get the upper reward track without it.Originally Posted by Bursucul Go to original post

Note that completing all three sections of Kenly gets you a key to the chapel, where the Diamondback exotic lives.
Keep farming challenging or heroic control points for the blueprints. You may also want to buy optimization caches with your stars when the next global event rolls around.- I’ve recalibrated gear with god rolled attributes where possible meaning my only option now is optimization for the other attributes. I’m seriously lacking in the resources you get from factions (like Black Tusk). Each Season Pass is free [upper half with gear & weapons], but the lower half [cosmetics, caches & materials] are $10 each season.Originally Posted by Bursucul Go to original post

Your survival time increases more than double the lowering of your TTK [it's a 4x gap with Glass Cannon]. I'm too impatient to hide in cover most of the time, so Unbreakable allows me to run around selectively facetanking. I like the trade-off most of the time - it's not nearly as large as people imagine in their head.
I probably wear Unbreakable about 75% of my playtime. The only time I don't is when I feel like getting sweaty [then it's Glass Cannon, Spotter, HeadHunter, or Obliterate].
