I really only have positive things to say about the game.
That's not to say there aren't flaws--there are--but I feel like my disagreements with the game are a far cry from the typical gripes from the GR community.
But if we're talking praise, then I've got plenty. I mean, at its core, for me, Breakpoint feels like a love letter to the legacy of stealth action games, particularly the Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid series, which I'm quite fond of. The atmosphere in the game is amazing; the environments and mood, like with the wolves and the drones is cool as heck. I went through Shark Base the other night, full stealth, just taking dudes out with a knife here'n there. Was definitely the best gaming experience I've had in a long time. The level of customisation both with your Ghost and with your overall experience is very impressive; a lot of good decisions were made there. My tactical shooter is also my fashion sim. This is good. And the game just looks amazing; visually stunning. The guns, the gear, the environments...breath-taking. Facial animation usually leave something to be desired, but the whole story sequences and dialogue choices really just feel like icing on the cake. I don't mind that they're a bit undercooked. Switching between a karambit and a straight-edge to stab baddies in different ways is more in-line with the decisions I thought I'd be making anyway, so we good.
I do see that some of the qualities I've been really enjoying about the game were added post-release--immersive mode--so I'm half glad I slept on it when it launched because I probably would have set it aside if it was just a looter shooter in tactical gear. For clarity, I picked the game up about a week ago. Perhaps I just came in at the perfect moment with expectation in the right place. I really couldn't be happier with the general experience, especially how easy it is to play with friends. The seamless drop-in, drop-out cooperative play is something I've wanted since forever.
Despite it's flaws and sometimes bizarre design choices--what even is "hip-fire?"--discovering and playing this game has brought me a much needed dose of glee in an otherwise bleak year.
Games are hard to make. Like, really hard. Like, scary hard. So if there's one take-away from my appreciation post, it'd be fcuk yes, Ghost team. Fcuk. Yes.
If you look at it that way you have a point. But too bad it wasn't a love letter to Ghost Recon...Originally Posted by Jazz117Volkov Go to original post
Yeah, I think that's a really nice challenge, go knife and pistol only. Going loud is also cool sometimes.Originally Posted by Jazz117Volkov Go to original post
They do disappear and off late it's even worse, because when you shoot the bagman at the beginning of clearing a base, by the time you're done his not just his body will have disappeared, but the money he drops as well. There's only a bloodstain left.Originally Posted by KUZMITCHS Go to original post
Really enjoy slow tactical gameplay. Breakpoint gives the freedom for that playstyle. Coupled with the ability to limit bandages, etc., to take away advantages and rely on pure tactics, is really where the game shines.Originally Posted by ManticButton Go to original post
That's the impression I'm getting, yeah.Originally Posted by KUZMITCHS Go to original post
I don't think Ubi knows what to do with tac-shooters. Rainbow Six became a room breaching simulator--I think Siege is cool tho--but the identity of that franchise was left on the cutting-room. Ghost Recon has gone through the same rebirth. Back ten years and we had Splinter Cell Conviction that re-wrote the book on Splinter Cell; I was sailing in that storm. Lot of opinions got chucked around and ultimately Splinter Cell fell off the map after Blacklist anyway.
Age has rewired my brain I think; I'm pretty content to take what I can get. No ones making decisions specifically to screw us, individually we're not that important. That said, I get excited just putting rum in my coffee nowadays; maybe I've become easy to please.
My latest examples have been Rocket Gunners - no weapon, ammo, nor rocket launcher; just a bloodstain ...Originally Posted by MyNameIsJord Go to original post
I completely agree!! Ubisoft did a great job with the overall environment design. Just some examples are the way the wind blows through the trees, the sunsets, and the fields with the red flowers. And I have been the happiest with the game when free roaming and making my own adventures.Originally Posted by gascan75 Go to original post
but it isn't a wildlife photography game. It is a tactical shooter and it really sucks at that. It's very fundamental reason for being a game it doesn't do. The rest is just fluff. I am one of those who does really like the cosmetics and creating my own character and backstory to make my own adventure. The actual character models and movement in BP I prefer, but that is about where it ends. The game just doesn't have enough meat on it's bones to make that effort worthwhile. It is just too ridiculously empty. I have spent a ton of time trying to create some amount of an urban firefight and I succeeded once in over a year when I hit a convoy in Liberty and a bunch of patrols just happen to be rolling around. In Wildlands I can have a gritty urban firefight with loads of enemies anytime I want. The emptiness of BP just demoralizes me from any interest in the game as much as I have tried.Originally Posted by GhostAgent14 Go to original post
