I went into Ubisoft connect and verified my files, after which found multiply corrupted files repaired the files and it seems to have fixed the problem for me.

The freezes have stopt now, hurah.
But still the occasional crash to the desktop, but that's not as worse as the freees.

The game is still constantly crashing.

Edit: Logged out of Uplay, logged back in, now it's working fine. Played for one hour, zero crashes.

For me it was somehow fixed.

Loaded the third 61 mb update at 8.30 pm and I just finished 2 hours straight with no issue at all.

Try again after having updated ubisoft connect. Apparently at last for me it was fixed.
(and yes after having lost almost two days I got nothing back for my patience).

The game is just back to its previous state of randomly crashing/freezing.

This isn't really a fix, but I guess now that the masses can play the problem will go back to being ignored.

Yes, agree. it just back to previous state. They fixed the "game freeze within 5mins and need to kill the process" issue, but the randomly crashing (CTD) is still the same.
I can play roughly 1hr and it will crash to desktop.
