I never got to make a first or second patrol report but here I desided to report my third patrol.

    This is my boat, S-20.

In S-20 my patrol zone was the Java Sea, north of Java. I was patroling Java sea near the recently captured Japanese harbor when I got a large contact. I went and investigated the contact, which turned out to be a large task force consisting of 5 battleships, 4 Heavy Cruisers, and 6 Destoryers. I launched a salvo of 4 from my bow tubes at one of the batteships. I got a hit under the forward turrets, one under the superstructure, one under te middle turret and on under the aft turret. I basically disabled the battleship to the point of her running on just one screw.

After that I was attacked by the 6 japanese destoryers. They proceeded to damage S-20 to the point of the command room and the engine room started taking on water making me sink stern first. Crush Depth was listed as 200 Feet and the dept of the ocean where I was at was 350 Feet. She sank all the way down to 345 feet before I started taking hull damage to which I blew ballast two times then hit periscope depth. I kept her around depth 150 - 200 running at ahead standard running with my heading to the North towards shallower waters. I dropped two decoys and about 10 minutes later I was in a area that was 210 feet deep. To which I placed her on the ocean bed to do repairs.

While here on the ocean floor I finally got to go to my damage screen to see the extent of the damage. This is the time I found out that both my Observation and Attack periscope heads were destoryed. I also found out my right diesel engine was destoryed also.

I got the damages fixed enough where they were pumping the water out of the two flooded compartments and the 6 destoryers thought I was destoryed and headed back to the task force. This was the time I turned my heading to east and went standard propulsion and headed up to periscope depth to catch up to the mostly disabled battleship. This is when I proceeded to get the heading of the battleship based off the noise of her one screw. I estimated she was going no more than 5 knots. I proceeded to launch one torpedo at the disabled battleship.

Which resulted in the battleship keeling over and sinking below the waves.

This is the point where I was still going standard and since my main hydraulic was damaged I went to ahead flank and blew ballast four times to get her to surface.

After this I slowly made way on one diesel engine back to my base down by Perth to get repairs and to resupply. After this I went out on my fourth patrol. My orders for the fourth patrol was to patrol and sink enemy merchant shipping in the Java Sea.

I gotone lone contact and lined up and went to periscope depth and spotted this.

I proceeded to launch all my forward tubes at her.

The first torpedo exploded about halfways to target which alerted the passengership. The second torpedo barely missed while the third one hit just at the prowl an the fourth impacted just under the funnel. She started sinking by the stern then she exploded breaking her own back.

After that my merchant shipping orders havent been met yet so I kept patrolling and picked up a small convoy leaving Java and I lined up my shots on a large modern tanker. I sent two into her side.

Which my fourth patrol ended with me headed back to my base near Perth in stormy seas. Only to arrive in bad weather and cant dock can only refit so as of now I am enroute back to Java Sea for my Fifth Patrol with S-20.

Nice shots Rusty_S85. You will have to check out the monthly screen shots competition here on the Forum.

To make your underwater marker disappear just hold down the Ctrl + the Del key on the number pad. To get it back just click the same combination again.

Thanks. I didnt even know you could delete the orange icon. I will write that down though.

But I have followed the monthly screenshot competitions since I got SHIII but never entered till now. Wit SHIII I couldnt post those screenshots cause my old pc had a Geforce 4MX graphics card so the ocean wasnt displayed.

But I do have 4 photos in this months competition and i got two aces as I refer to them waiting for the July competition.

Maybe someone else will answer, because I haven't played stock in so long. That being if you hit bottom or lie on the bottom your ship will eventually start taking damage.

    Great patrol.

I think we have a budding photographer in our midst.

Nice story and great pics, Rusty.

    Great patrol.
I didnt receive any dammage from sitting on the bottom. I did start taking damage when I got around 350 feet (200 feet being crash depth).

I have an update though, reasion I couldnt dock was my base was changed and I never got the message. But I have alot of new screens though. Will post an update here with photos of my fifth, sixth, and seventh patrols.

Btw, thanks for the link. I really like those S-boat skins but sadly I gave up command of S-20 for a new sub.

Your boat will take damage if you sit on the bottom long enough, very minor at first, but can get much worse the longer you stay.

Ah ok, I guess I wasnt on the bottom long enough to start taking damage. I was on the bottom probably 10 mins tops. Hull percentage under damage was still at 8% that I got at 350 feet.

But to update some, I got the chance to update my boat so I lost the S-20 and ended up with the USS Sturgeon a Samon class boat. First patrol with her I ended up coming back to port with 83% damage. Which I was given command of the USS Sea Dragon a Sargo class. As of today I am in command of the USS Drum a Gato class.

But to update with a new patrol report the next one basically starts off with me heading out to the Phillipines islands to patrol and sink enemy merchant.

First off my radar picked up a two ship convoy, which strangely turned out to be a destoryer following a gun boat.

I desided it would be a waste to torpedo the gun boat, so I aimed at the destroyer. Which proceeded to take one in the stern.

After which I didnt want to waste any more torpedos being no wheres near the phillipines to count towards my merchant shipping sunk. I surfaced at 4,000 yards and quickly went to ahead flank and put five 4" armor piercing rounds into her side. Which luckily took her out to allow me to engage the small gunboat.

After that I proceeded along on the course I plotted and I came across a six ship convoy. Turned out to be two passengerships and four destoryer escorts. I proceeded to launch two torpedo at each passengership and ignored the destoryers. I sunk one, and got a hit on the other.

Which I now proceded to slowly move away while the four destoryer escort was searching for me.

I make my way to my patrol area and not more than 3 hours later a tanker sails into view. I quickly plotted the tankers general course, plotted my course, and went ahead flank on the surface to get into position for an attack. I launched four torpedos at the tanker at 1400 yards.

Which the second torpedo impact broke her back and set her ablaze.

After that I proceed along with my patrol with four torpedos left. Around 2200 hours (10pm) I spot yet another convoy consisting of two passengerships escorted by this time five destroyers.

I targeted the second passengership first and launched two torpedos (one under bridge and one under funnel) followed by two torpedos to the lead passengership fifteen seconds later.

I ended up sinking both passengerships and I quietly got away from the destoryer escort and made my way back to base.
