A large list of ideas and innovations for ANO 1800, as well as the idea of a new game

    Hello.

I would like to offer a number of ideas and innovations for ANNO 1800, as well as the idea of a new game.

    — As you know, the first electric train was invented in 1893 and it was much faster than steam locomotives that worked on coal, but it required the modernization of the railway track. I propose to introduce an innovation in the game in the form of electric trains that will be faster, but which will require a connection to the power plant and a special railway track for one segment of which 1 unit of reinforced concrete and 2 units of steel beams will be required (instead of 1 unit of boards and 1 unit of steel beams for coal locomotives), since the railway for electric trains has a third contact rail and concrete sleepers.
-The 3rd season of the game seems to me a complete disappointment, because they do not open anything new, and after all, the essence of the game is to introduce players to new corners of the planet Earth and various original cultures and peoples of different continents. In this regard, such localities as Australia, Japan, India and China suggest themselves. For example, the Japanese may have two iterations — a young Japanese woman, who represents the traditional Japanese lifestyle of the first half of the 19th century and their need is to produce Japanese kimonos made of silk, and the second iteration is a Japanese man dressed in a European suit with a bowler hat, who represents the second half of the 19th century, when the era of isolation Japan is over. At this stage, they need supplies of designer European suits and bowler hats from South America. The unique Japanese culture, flora and fauna will give a lot to museums, zoos and botanical gardens. A Japanese company can be dedicated to helping the Japanese transition from their traditions to the transition to the Western path of development, by bringing various benefits of civilization from the railway to incandescent lamps. Australia is known for its large deposits of metal ores, including gold, diamonds (a new resource) and oil, as well as extremely developed grain crop production, animal husbandry and poultry farming (a new resource — for the first time in the history of the ANNO series, poultry consumption will appear in the game), so there are twice as many sources of resources as in the Old World and any farm gets 200% efficiency at the start. At the same time, not only European crops can be grown in Australia, but also South American and African crops (for example, wheat and sugar cane, cotton and potatoes, at the same time). The population of Australia can be divided into imported Convicts of the beginning of the century and wealthy Farmers of the end of the century. Both will need an influx of goods from Europe, but in return they will be able to produce twice as much metal ores and agricultural products. The unique Australian flora, fauna and culture of the local resident will also give a lot to museums, zoos and botanical gardens. The company can start with the fact that the jailer Eli will offer the player to transport a ship with an unknown cargo to the new Australian continent. Only after arriving in Australia, the player in the story learns that there were prisoners in the holds and his task is to help them settle in a new place, explore the mainland, meet the locals and discover Australia for white people, who at the same time themselves go from Convicts to wealthy Farmers.
    — One of the biggest drawbacks of the game is the lack of land armies, although in the 19th century the development of weapons was almost the fastest in history. Thus, at the stage of Farmers and Workers (the beginning of the 19th century) The army consists of fusiliers, artillery, and cavalrymen, armed in the manner of the Napoleonic Wars. Infantry and cavalry move in tight formation and at the same time are extremely inefficient — extremely low accuracy, rate of fire and range of fire soldiers can't hide behind cover. At the Artisan stage (mid-19th century), the troops are replaced by smooth-bore flint fusees with more advanced rifled capsule rifles, which are more long-range, faster-firing and more accurate. There are also breech-loading, longer-range, faster-firing and more accurate artillery batteries and Rapid-fire gun, hand cranked (Mitrailleuse), and the cavalry gets multi-shot revolvers. As a result, the infantry formation armed with such rifles becomes more discharged in contrast to the dense infantry formation of the Napoleonic Wars, and the infantry itself gets the opportunity to build bulk fortifications to hide behind them during the battle. At the Engineering stage (the end of the 19th century), the cavalry has even more rapid-fire, accurate and multi-shot automatic pistols (such as the Mauser C96 or Borchard C93), the infantry has even more long-range, rapid-fire and accurate magazine rifles and automatic machine guns, and the infantry itself gets the opportunity to dig trenches that protect them even better in battle. Heavy artillery batteries and combat airship bombers appear. As a result, there will be numerous battles between soldiers of different levels of weapons, as happened during the Crimean War of 1853-1856, when the French and British armed with capsule rifles had some technical superiority over the Russian army armed with flintlock smoothbore muskets.
    — The idea for the next part of the game can be either ANNO 2025 (based on the modern world with its benefits and problems and with an attempt to open the near future based on the ideas of Elon Musk, and most importantly with the introduction of aircraft such with hydrogen engine), or ANNO 9 AD based on the first century AD. The point is to merge several cultures at once: Roman, Greek, Persian and Egyptian and Jewish, and an additional region can be China, central Africa and India. Also, the underground catacombs of the first Christians can act as one of the objects, and in general, the game could play on the contrast and contradictions of different cultures and religions.

after all that talk of more war in Anno 1800...
it isn't going to happen...(word from devs)

And this is their big and obvious mistake. As a basis, you could take the game Ultimate General: Civil War. And so it turns out that the developers of ANNO games are too inert, uninitiative and lazy, preferring to choose the easy way and not developing the series in any way. Even in 2205 there were no aircraft (although even at the beginning of the 21st century, up to 30% of cargo transportation is carried out by air), even in 1800 there are no land battles (in an era when there was a rapid development of weapons and numerous wars were thundering at any moment). The series does not develop, then they will make other buildings in the game in another era, but the essence will not change - sea transportation between a bunch of islands and nothing more, and for the third season pay them separately, because in the Complete Edition it is somehow unthinkable not included. And as a result, the developers voluntarily abandon the evolution of the ANNO series of games, and they take a lot of money like no one else and more and more

-Electric trains sounds like a downgrade to me. Trains are already quick enough and have no direct cost currently. Might only be noteable on Crown Falls.

    - They do add new things though which in many ways are more needed while are also less of an impact on performance.
Botanical gardens are a DLC feature so they don't get any new content from new areas. Not a fan and I think it should be free content.

    - Not a draw back at all, really not fitting with what the game covers. We aren't in the heart of empires. We're out in the sticks on islands that for the most part have been unoccupied. Historically during this period it wasn't the army taking them but the naval forces and gunboat diplomacy was a big thing during this era and fits the game design.
Also run in to issues with things such as the bomber idea in that is a separate DLC item.

And the game has developed. Just because it's not added a feature you want doesn't mean it hasn't advanced in other ways.

There have been multiple threads about land combat. The consensus seems to be that this is not something the community wants. I certainly don't. I believe that it is against the essence of the ANNO series, which is a city builder/trade simulator. Naval combat just about has a place, protecting your trade routes. For those who want to play against opponents, it gives a mechanism to defeat them, though I far prefer the economic route.
Those of us who have played the series for a long time will have noticed a decreasing amount of land combat as the series has progressed. 1503 required several missions centred on land combat to complete the campaign, by 1404 it was minimal and by 2070 it had disappeared. I, for one, was glad of this, and don't wish to see a return.
If you want it, there are plenty of games out there that are focused on combat. That's fine. I play and like some of them, But ANNO isn't one of them. For me, return to land combat would be a backward step. If it became a dominant feature, I would probably not buy another ANNO.

    - Electric train is the development of land transport in the game. If in ANNO 1800 there is a transition of cargo and passenger delivery from horse-drawn to automobile delivery, a transition from sailing ships to steamboats, then why can't there be a transition from coal locomotives to electric trains. This is a logical development that can occur to anyone who is inclined to think and analyze, and this is what the game teaches (for some reason only me). It is surprising that the game, which is based on constant development, does not develop itself in any way.
    — What new things are the developers adding to the game? A couple of "exclusive" decorative elements for the price of an entire game? They do not add anything else, while I suggest specific regions, and designate the types of residents who should inhabit these lands, and even prescribe the course of the company and resources. Additional regions do not affect performance, how did the appearance of Enbesa change the FPS level in your game? Botanical gardens received new content after the appearance of the same Enbesa. What territories of the Old World were not inhabited before the 19th century, and during the 19th century they were inhabited? What nonsense, Columbus discovered America, but only the land forces of Cortez conquered it. Give at least one historical example when the naval forces conquered the land. There are no such examples in the entire history (the same naval blockade of England by Napoleon's fleet did not give anything and England did not submit) you said a very big stupid thing and you didn't realize it yourself! At all times, naval battles were episodic in nature and did not affect the outcome of the war in any way. The result at all times of the war was decided only on land theaters of military action and if the developers of the ANNO series of games are not able to implement this, they have creative impotence, they do not know how and do not want to work, they do not have ideas and potential for their implementation, then let Ubisoft dissolve Blue Byte and create a new studio, so that only those who are able to make the game exceptionally better, and not spoil it from edition to edition, work in it. are no directions in which the game does not develop. The 19th century was the era of proto-globalism, when the whole world was open to Europeans. Developers showed South America, the Arctic and Africa, and this is very good, but where is Australia and just some kind of "small" " uninteresting" Asia? How can you realize that these regions are not in the game and consider it normal?! And the worst thing is that nothing was offered in exchange (tourists, skyscrapers and ports are NOTHING)

Aha, that is, the series does not develop, but degrades, and you do not condemn it, but rejoice in it. That is, you would not want to see a line of soldiers marching through a wheat field, storming palaces and town halls, making looting and devastation among peaceful hearths. ANNO judging by the name, this is a simulator of the historical era. What historical era do you know in which there were no wars? Learn about history, the 19th century is not only the first ball of Natasha Rostova, it is also Andrei Bolkonsky, who dies on the battlefield near Austerlitz. History is war and peace, destruction and creation, the struggle from which prosperity often arises. I want to struggle, it is not enough for me to arrange houses around the market square.

-Electric trains. The change in the delivery of production goods does benefit your game without adding extra cost from what I can tell. Steamships open up more options, they have larger cargo capacity, item slots and aren't reliant on the wind along with more health IIRC.

Adding an electric requirement to the train would, and the only role of the train is to supply oil to make electricity. Which while they might be slightly faster is going to struggle to maintain the same efficiency, especially on Crown Falls. So it's not a straight up development compared to the others in game, it could actually be a step back for your island.

-Additions. Docklands has added new trade options, which has been a requested feature. Second is adding new Tourist options which was something that rose during this time frame as currently it's very basic. Skyscrappers were also first built in this period and we are finally getting an official addition of it with more options to keep the top tier of our society happy.

Yeah these are adding new things and things from the period. I'm not that fussed by them myself but I can see they bring new elements to the game and new game play.

For me the recent addition has impacted performance, I've repeatedly had to restart the game due to slow down. Performance isn't just FPS but also the use of other elements such as the CPU and RAM. Ubisoft do collect metric data from players to tell what their performance is (these days seems all games do send that type of data off) so they have an idea of how peoples computers are handling things.

Quite a few places were effectively none occupied during the period, mostly remote areas. Of course this isn't a direct cut from our world.

How many continents are we conquering in game? We aren't. It's occupation and changing of hands of islands. Of course one of the strangest wars during this period would be a good example: Anglo-Zanzibar war. Lasted 38 minutes before the island surrendered as the Navy sank the oppositions ships and bombarded their palace. There's the US Capture of Guam in the Spanish-American war where a single ship captured the island. There's the Occupation of German Samoa during WW1 where New Zealand took control after a small fleet arrived.

And that's ignoring many of the other islands being taken during the period with very little in the way of ground combat.

Again as I said we aren't fighting on the land. We are on islands. So yeah the naval element was vital and did change the war. It was also a huge part of why Napoleon lost the Napoleonic war and took multiple beatings. France lost most of their over seas colonies, lost the Egyptian campaign, couldn't invade Britain and lost a lot of trade and access to resources they needed for the war due to the British navy.

Adding land combat does not mean the game will be better. Again you might like it others may not. Last poll on here while very few responses showed most would consider adding land combat would make the game worse.

Again please read what people have said. I didn't say they were uninteresting or that it's normal to not have them. It's a game, not the world it has limitations as I've said.

Then find another game. There are plenty about struggling. This one is about building, and community wants it to stay this way. We know the history, thank you. Don't get butthurt people don't like your idea.

Also, please work on the presentation. A huge wall of text does not invite to be read

i think this could be the blood you are looking for.

    or maybe this one.

just two of the hundreds of city building games which have land battles...why do we need another?
