Posting again because my last post got completely ignored. I know I can't be the only person that feels this way. I would like to have at least a moderate challenge in PvAI, because level 1 bots are a complete joke. It is incredibly boring. All I want is to be able to fight level 2 and 3 bots as I please (and before anyone suggests custom games, I'd like to point out that I would also like to level my characters).
I personally cannot stand PvP. I'm not skilled enough to consistently do well (or this wouldn't be an issue because my MMR would be high enough for Level 2 bots), and I don't have the time or dedication in my life to devote to constant practice to get better at PvP. Even if I did, the atmosphere surrounding competitive game modes is not healthy for me; I do not like the person I become when I delve too deep into competition.
All I'm asking is to be able to casually play the game and still have a moderate challenge without having to touch aspects of the game that I do not enjoy. I know PvP is the main focus of the game, but I really think it would be a benefit to Ubisoft and the For Honor player community to accommodate all types of players, from casual to hardcore, rather than just catering to the PvP connoisseurs.
Please, as a community member, if you read this and you agree, try to help make the issue more visible to Ubisoft. If you disagree, please feel free to share why you disagree, but I implore you to try and see it from the perspective of the players who are not the most skilled but would still like to enjoy this game.
You do realize that the bots are programmed with adaptive AI, right? If you keep doing the same things over and over again they’ll learn your pattern and will just start countering it. This means that if you’re struggling to fight against the bots that either means that you’re trying to spam lights on them or you’re just being predictable.
Did you read my post? I said the bots are far too easy. Yes, I realize they are adaptive AI, however, the overall bot level is tied specifically to performance in PvP. I only get Level 1 bots in PvAI. Level 1 bots never parry, rarely guardbreak, never counter guardbreak, and occasionally use chains, but when they do they are super predictable. The only way to increase the bot level to Level 2 is to increase MMR in PvP, which is...absurd.
My point is, I don't want to have to play PvP in order to give myself a moderate challenge and actually get to experience the adaptive AI.
You also assumed that I just monotonously play the same way repeatedly, never getting better. That's not the case, I'm a very reflective player and I'm always trying to improve. The problem is that I want to fight level 2 and 3 bots in PvAI, especially in Dominion, but in order to do that I need to raise my MMR in PvP. It doesn't make sense to me that the two are linked. Why do I have to do well in PvP to enjoy a game mode that has nothing to do with PvP?
Also, if it based it off of my individual performance it might make sense, but it is based on match wins, which I have little to no control over. I could be performing very well, with a high K/D and renown from taking and holding zones, but my teammates could be complete morons and we lose a match. Down goes my MMR. And without any transparency on MMR ratings, I have no clue where I stand or how many games I need to win consecutively in order to trigger whatever threshold I need to spawn Level 2 bots in PvAI so I never have to touch PvP again, at least not until another MMR reset.
Ultimately, I'm doomed to either play PvP forever or face Level 1 bots forever. Occasionally I'll join a match in-progress, and the host of that match had a high enough MMR for level 2 bots, and it is soooo refreshing to actually have to think a little bit, to actually put forth some effort and use some of the tactics and combos I've been honing, actually having to react to guardbreaks and the occasional parry (or frequent parries and feinting with level 3s) instead of only having blocks and the occasional dodge to deal with. Then the matchmaking continues and its back to level 1s.
If you’re talking about getting replaced with a level 3 bot then that’d be reasonable. The only time bot level is based around someone’s performance in PvP is when the person gets replaced with a bot mid-game. If your player performance is high in PvP and you leave a match mid-game you’ll likely get replaced by a level 3 bot.
It also affects the bot levels you receive in PvAI matches, not just what bot replaces you if you leave the game. If you load up a PvAI match (no matchmaking, just you and bots) it bases the level of those bots on your MMR. If you don't play a lot of PvP and have a low MMR, your entire team AND the enemy team will be Level 1. I find this mechanic to be silly. Just because I don't play PvP doesn't mean I don't want to be challenged. I should have the option of playing against Level 2+ bots without having to play PvP.
That's not how it was in the past, though. As far as I can remember, we've never been allowed to select bot levels. I recall people complaining about Level 2 bots being too hard, and Ubi setting the default bot level to 1, which IMO was a poor decision.
You're probably right, they won't do anything about it. I guess in order to to encounter any sort of challenge I'll just have to immerse myself in the toxicity that is PvP. I can only hope that Ubisoft will make some improvements with the next installment of For Honor, when/if it gets released.
