    New samurai hero idea - the Oni

    Given the reveal of year of the covenants, my idea for one of the new heroes would be a samurai hybrid (that’s shares the traits of an assassin and a vanguard) called the Oni.

    Key visuals:
    >Oni/demon mask (similar to other samurai heroes like the Shoguki or Orochi).
    >Blend of traditional samurai armor (like the Kensei or Orochi) and ninja clothing (like the Shinobi). Basically, he’d be a slightly more armored version of the Shinobi.

    Weapon:
    Dual wields katana and tanto.

    Themes/concepts:
    >Designed for fighting other heroes.
    >Ghost of Tsushima: thin line between an honorable samurai and a dishonorable assassin, or “ghost.”
    >Darker hero concept similar to the harbingers.
    >Tormentor: disturbing presence that haunts the battlefield. Disappearing into the shadows between kills is child’s play.
    >Ronin/mercenary: Aramusha but edgier.

    Fighting style/moveset:
    >Mix-up/melee specialist: uses kicks, martial arts, etc.
    >Adaptable
    >Predatory
    >The katana would be the main weapon, whereas the tanto would mostly be used for quick stabbing attacks that cause bleed damage (like how the Peacekeeper stabs you repeatedly), blocking, parrying, executions, etc.
    >Super sprint (like the Shinobi)

    Possible feat options:
    The ones in bold are my top choices for each tier, but feel free to comment if you think another one would be better.
    >Tier 1:
    >Fast recovery: stamina regenerates faster (passive)
    >Iron lungs: you can still spirit when out of stamina (passive)
    >Bounty hunter: gain health and stamina when you another hero (passive)
    >Stealth: hide yourself from the HUD, radar and aim assist (passive)
    >Deadly: Attacks deal more damage (passive)
    >Tier 2:
    >Chilling stare: nearby enemies have lower attack and defense
    >Smoke bomb: throw a smoke bomb on the ground that breaks the lock
    >Kunai: quickly throw a weighted dagger that does damage
    >Executioner's respite: the base healing of executions are increased by 50% (passive)
    >Bloodlust: killing heroes grants temporary attack and defense boosts (passive)
    >Thick blood: gain immunity from regular bleed damage (passive)
    >Haymaker: punches, kicks, and throws now deal damage (passive)
    >Blink: shift behind a locked enemy and perform a kick
    >Tier 3:
    >Flaming arrows: fire an arrow dealing fire damage
    >Second wind: recover some of your health
    >Sharpen blade: attacks inflict low damage over time
    >Nukekubi: gain stamina on successful attacks (passive)
    >Tier 4:
    >Nail bomb: a trap dealing Bleed Damage in an area of effect
    >Fear itself: enemies around you have lower stamina regeneration and defenses
    >Last laugh: drop a high damage grenade upon death unless executed (passive)
    >Scout: all enemies are marked for death and show up on the radar

    Custom feat idea:
    The Oni can light his katana on fire for a short time and each enemy he successfully hits while the feat is active will take burn damage over time.

    Signature ideas:
    >The Oni throws a smoke bomb right behind him and then slowly backs into the smoke, vanishing from sight.
    >The Oni tosses a decapitated Warden (Larry) head forward.
    >The Oni throws several kunai forward.
    >The Oni draws his katana and spins it several times, and then points it forward.
    >The Oni cleans off his katana similarly to Hawkeye/Ronin in Avengers Endgame (https://youtu.be/ztQYUdjj3GY?t=110).

    You do realize that Shugoki is supposed to represent an Oni, right? An Oni is supposed to be the Japanese relative to a demon. They are described as looking like trolls that would either have tusks coming out of their mouths or horns on their head. This part explains why Shugoki’s masks are a lot different from the rest of the samurai heroes. An Oni is also described as carrying an iron Kanabo around with them. This is why Shugoki uses a Kanabo as his weapon. Finally why do you think that he has stuff in his moveset called “Charge of the Oni”, “Demon’s Embrace”, and “Demon Ball”? It’s because they’re representing an Oni. So your idea isn’t really great since it’s already been done with Shugoki.

    Plus since you named your hero idea “Oni” that means that they’d have to use a Kanabo or else it’d make no sense and they already have a character with a Kanabo. Plus you need to realize that a LOT of these characters are based off of ACTUAL warriors in real life so the fighting style and armor has to be based off of actual stuff so you need to be an expert with ancient weaponry and armor to be able to come up with a complete hero. So just focus on small details for possible future heroes(for example: think of feat ideas).

    Finally just because something would sound or look cool doesn’t mean that it would be good. Ubisoft primarily bases For Honor off of realism. The only time that they go around the realism concept is with the feats in the game. That’s why Shaolin has the ability to just straight up teleport across the ENTIRE map.

    Azulra_1, firstly, this is just a character idea that I came up with for fun. This design was heavily influenced by Ghost of Tsushima, so “oni” was one of the best things that I thought would fit this concept. I didn’t pick it just because it sounds cool. Details can always be changed, including the name. Secondly, I’m fully aware that the heroes are based on real warriors. I’m fully aware that the Shugoki is supposed to be based on a demon. Oni are typically portrayed as being huge, horned, and carrying a kanabo; that doesn’t mean they’re always portrayed that way. The overall concept of my character is nothing like the shugoki, the only common themes are the name and mask.

    Azulra_1, also there’s probably a good number of people that play this game that aren’t (fully) aware of the concept behind an oni, the shugoki, and several of the the other heroes. So even if my hero idea was just another shugoki (which he’s not) what difference does it make?

    A lot of people do know the concept that an Oni is supposed to represent a demon and such because of the 3 attacks that I listed out. Also the difference is is that every hero is supposed to be unique in design/armor from other heroes in the game. So that means that Shugoki’s mask is unique to him exclusively which is why no other samurai hero has a mask similar to his.

    Okay, then why do the kensei, orochi, and even the aramusha with some of his visuals have similar masks?


    And once again, this is just a concept. I can do WHATEVER I want for then, so that would include sharing some visuals, themes, etc from other heroes. Like I said, he wouldn’t be the same thing as the shugoki. If anything, he would be more like the shinobi, aramusha, or even the peacekeeper. I realize that each hero is supposed to be different, but I’m no artist, so I can’t come up with my own visualization of what I would want the character to look like. That’s why I posted a million links to images that give people a rough idea of what I would want him to look like. If some of those visuals happen to be something similar to one of the heroes already in the game, so what? And honestly, what are the odds that Ubisoft will ever add my idea (or something similar) to the game? Like I said, I’m just doing this for fun, and I have plenty of other hero ideas that I plan on sharing eventually.

    It’s because samurai warriors commonly wore similar masks to each other, but noticeably Shugoki’s is designed differently. The other were warriors that just used common masks. Shugoki is meant to represent and appear as an Oni so he needed a mask to be different from the common mask so he could appear like an Oni.

    Also this is a page for recommending actual suggestions for the game. If it’s not supposed to be a recommendation to help make the game better(for example: trying to solve certain issues for a certain character) then it should be placed elsewhere. If it becomes a common trend of a specific topic then Ubisoft will start to think about it and try to find a reasonable way to solve the issue. That’s why people only make suggestions for improving the game on this page.
