How does Dancer of the Week work?

On completing a dance today scoring all perfects and all 3 gold moves as Yeah's on Barbie Girl I have scored 13181 however this does not show on the leader board and people have scored higher even though I cant get anymore perfects or Yeah's.

Please could someone explain how this works?

    Thank You

    JD2021 doesn't have a leaderboard. Leaderboards hasn't become a thing after JD2018.

So how Dancer of the Week works is that you have to score higher than the person who is currently DOTW

    How please?

I scored all perfects and all 3 Yeah moves so how can I score more? Nothing but perfects and Yeahs

The scoring is a bit funny. It doesn't work quite the way it seems it should. There is more to the scoring than just the total number of perfects. At times, it can seem a bit frustrating and contradictory. I hit all perfects on one dance and my score is less than 13,300, then on another dance I make one Super and my score comes out to 13,320. One day I might hit all perfects and 3 supers on a dance and score 13,270, then the next day I might hit all perfects and 4 supers and score 13,280. It may not be perfect, but once you get used to it, it is generally not too unreasonable.

I'm not quite sure why all perfects doesn't always equal a perfect 13,333. I have a few theories.

Maybe there are hidden moves in addition to the scored moves. It used to seem this way back in 2017. In fact, in 2018 they introduced Super, and then dancing to songs from 2017 and earlier, I found that I was hitting Super in places where in previous years I had hit Perfect. So maybe there are other "hidden" moves even now that Super has been introduced.

Maybe the game gives you a score based on your synchronization for the entire dance, and then subtracts from this overall score if you hit supers, goods, OK's, or X's. In this theory, the total score equals the synchronization score minus any penalties. So if you're spot on, but make one technical foul to earn a super, you could hit a slightly higher score than if you were just slightly off overall (but not enough to take any technical fouls).

Maybe the gold moves are worth a variable number of points depending on how well you hit them. Again, this is all speculation, but there is some reason that the overall score isn't perfectly consistent and that all perfects often comes up short of 13,333.

Maybe it makes a difference how many times you hit all perfects or nearly all perfects on the same dance. (Though I have hit 13,300's on my first try of a couple of dances over the years, so maybe this theory isn't correct.) A variation of this theory is that maybe your overall score for all of the current dances (or maybe dances from previous years) gives you some hidden rank and this rank has a small impact on the scoring. Again, it's just speculation.

    Happy dancing.
