What is your take on this part of Pelosi's bill Americans?

I see it as being FORCED to have health insurance.

“H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.” [page 1]

“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…” [page 2]
- - - - - - - - - -
“Criminal penalties

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3]

It passed 220 to 215.

Shouldn't be a worry. If you lose your insurance, for whatever reason, you can take the Government supplied insurance and if you can't afford it, they'll even help pay for it. I can only imagine that the fines and jail time are there to make sure you take that option.

Surely, it wouldn't be part of an overall plan to see more people on the public option, right?

Same here.

Speaking of paying for the government, what I really want to know is who this guy named 'FICA' is, because this A-hole has been taking a cut of my paychecks ever since I started working.

Its such a "great" measure that they have to tax, fine, and imprison you if you don't take it. Wont be long and the brown shirts will be roaming the streets after you.

So they are forcing everyone to have health insurance? I just don't see that as a bad thing. Or is it the principle of insurance being 'forced' upon you that you object to?

It would be like the government telling everyone that they must fly a flight simulator. "You can fly anyone that you want; except for IL2 which is not an American product and did not give any political contributions."

It goes beyond being forced to do something. No one, no matter how much good it might do, should be forced into submitting to what the government will decides will constitute "Health Care". The government will decide if your plan is a valid one or not. (Probably based on said political contributions IMHO.)

The AJC put together a list of highlights of the bill that was passed.

Source

—Require most Americans to purchase health insurance or pay a fine.

—Expand health care coverage to 36 million more people over the next decade.

—Require employers with payrolls above $500,000 to provide insurance to their employees or pay a fine.

—Prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage because of pre-existing medical conditions.

—End premium disparities between men and women.

—Impose a 5.4 percent income tax surcharge on income above $500,000 annually for individuals and above $1 million annually for households.

—Establish a government-run insurance plan to compete with private insurers beginning in 2013.

—Cost $1.2 trillion over 10 years.

—Cut Medicare spending by more than $400 billion over 10 years.

I am gonna send my reprentative, who voted for this bill, an email stating that I will be sending him the fine notices and expect him to pay it should this bill passes and gets signed by Obama.

Curious as to how the House voted? The Washington Posts The House Passes Health-care Bill
A look at how members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted: page details the vote.

Only one Republican voted for it and quite a few Democrats didn't. Bipartisan my rear end.

It's fine, the provision for forced coverage *should* get tossed out in the Supreme Court, and anyone who voted for it *should* be impeached and/or tossed/voted out of office.
