This game becoming more and more focused on offense has made defense much harder. Some of the heros have dodge attacks that completely bypass any offense a character has and forces a person to go back to neutral rather than continuing their offense. This is nice against heros that have a light attack as a dodge attack because they go into it a few times and a light parry punish is enough to end it. However against kensei, gryphon and other heros that have a heavy dodge attack make it very annoying and unenjoyable to face. They can avoid so many mixups by mashing the dodge button and every time I haveto stop attacking and bait out a dodge attack just for like 9 damage from a light. For about a 120 hp hero that would take a huge amount of parries and punishes to kill the person. If offense is the way to go then why are dodge attacks so safe and rewarding? making all of the unfeintable dodge attacks a light attack would make them riskier and allow other heros to continue their pressure. There are some heros that would need a deeper discussion like JJ, tiandi, or any other hero that has a feintable dodge attack. I personally think every dodge attack including feintable ones should be a light because dodging attacks force people to play more defensively. I hate just starring at a tiandi waiting for an opening as he dances around me. or a peacekeeper that dodges and does a heavy every time I consider throwing an attack. It forces players to play at the pace of the one with the dodge attack.
Nah I think it should be a light parry or put more guardbreak Vulnerability on it. Also JJ and Tinadi doesn't have much guardbreak Vulnerability so I don't know what your talking aboutOriginally Posted by Gaser. Go to original post
They have quite a lot when you take in to account that not only the dodge itself makes them open to GB as well as the start up of the attack.Originally Posted by MastlyCJ Go to original post
They have massive openings to GB on there start up to balance out the fact that they are able feint / soft cancel them.
Again what you wanting here would butcher the risk / reward, try practicing instead to punish the obvious flaw in there dodge attacks.
The only problematic dodge attacks in this game are Kensei and Gryphon. most of the other dodge attacks are reasonably balanced. Gryphon and Kensei have too many i frames and too little Gb vulnerability to even consider them balanced.
Also Tiandi and JJ have massive GB vulnerability on their dodge attacks, that, theyre super long, and telegraphed make being able to feint them a must. Light parry reward on them is asinine. If jj's dodge attack catches you off guard, you can always block in the direction of his soft feint and react block the heavy. Makes his dodge attack a lot less scary that way.
I think Kensei and Gryphon need more gb vulnerability and need to be turned into light attacks. The moves are way too safe and I fight so many Gryphons and kenseis that do the dodge attack over and over and I can only get like 10 damage in with a light attack and then I need to heavy feint to prepare for the next dodge attack. I do not think I have ever gotten a guard break on either of these 2 when they went for the dodge attack and I had feinted my attack and went for a guard break. As far as tiandi and JJ go, I have almost never gotten a guard break on those heros because I feel like they dodge at random times in order to force the other person to wait for a chance to attack. Like tiandis will just start dodging. I do not know what to do at that point. If I go for a gb I bounce off. But if I dont I just need to wait and see what they do.
I think Turing them in to lights is a bit overkill and butchers the risk and reward.Originally Posted by Dha_Beast Go to original post
The problem with these dodge attacks are that they need a bit more GB frames and drastically reduced I-Frames.
I will agree that the attacks need reduced i-Frames with kensei and gryphon for sure. But having to always feint to neutral and wait for the dodge attack just to get like 11 damage is so frustrating. Unless the hero I am playing has a deflect or crushing counter or some other high damage way of punishing, the dodge attacks are way too safe. And its not just about how much damage they do. Its about the fact that these dodge attacks give the character control over the fight as you always need to stop attacking expecting the dodge attack. Also for both kensei and gryphon, the dodge attack leads directly into the finisher attacks in their chains. I feel like all of these benefits do not represent a good risk and reward ratio. Against a 120 or 130 hp character this is such a painfully slow way to kill them. I feel like if a move avoids everything other than an undodgeable attack and a very early guard break, It should have the right amount of risk involved to be able to do those moves. Maybe there is another way to punish dodge attacks that I have not used or am not aware of. But depending on my hero it seems to undodgeable attacks. GBs are so difficult to get on these heros so I just rarely go for it.
