    Night vision grey vs green

So I noticed recently that there are now two different night vision colors, greyscale and green in the game. The green has always been there and the grey I believe was added when the Bodark DLC dropped. For a while I thought the night vision was just changed to grey and I didn't like mind it at first but I found it personally slightly harder to see. At the time I didn't think much of it because I pretty much stopped playing after I did all the Bodark content. Now I'm back for the new event and to finish leveling my classes to 20. I noticed that grey night vision was a permanent change. I didn't notice before because I was rocking the echelon set that you get from the same fisher DLC, but grey night vision only applies when you are wearing select few facemasks, for me specifically, out of the ones I have unlocked, grey night vision applies when using the echelon face masks, the 3d eclipse balaclava helmet, the silencer echelon helmet, and the echelon goggles head gear.

Idk if weird glitch or maybe on purpose. This sucks because I notice that it is harder to see further away and tell enemies from the background due to the grey night vision being a terrible contrast of grey scale so you contrasting greys and blacks as compared to the green where you're contrasting greens and blacks, or at least it looks harder to see with than the green. In any case, even if I'm just imagining the differences I would REALLY REALLY like it if the night vision for specific facemasks weren't color locked because they were definitely all just green before the bodark patch. I would really like not being forced to use grey night vision on specific pieces of gear that I really like cuz it feels harder for me to see with. Or is there some sort of setting I can mess with to set all my gear to just green night vision?

Here's a video link I recorded of me just aiming at trees and scrolling through the gear pieces that I noticed are have the grey night vision. I'm aiming at trees in the distance to demonstrate how it's harder to tell the trees from the background when using the grey vision vs the green. It's subtle and I didn't feel liking searching for areas where the difference is more apparent, but there are times when it is very clear to see that the grey night vision just blends enemies into the background when playing at night. Switching goggles has no effect on the color, though I only tried one or two in the video, I did mess with all the goggles I have unlocked on my own. I also noticed that switching goggles will unequip whatever face mask you have on. Also, the night vision will remain grey if you have the echelon goggles equipped in the head protection slot regardless of whatever face mask you have on.

Once again the Greyscale is one of the Pathfinder class abilities. Please read the patch notes that added that class if you need a refresher. This has been brought up 10 or 20 times on these forums.

Edit: I apologize I was mistaken. I had forgotten that the SC goggles apply a different filter. My mistake..

You are mistaken. All the Splinter cell goggles will give you a grayish night vision, regardless of what class you are. The pathfinder vision is more like thermal, where enemies will be highlighted.

    Pathfinder vision

    vs

    Splinter Cell NVG's

    Vs

    Normal Nightvision

I'd seen a YouTuber running in gray but thought maybe it was an effect he applied. I just tried a mask and it's true. From green to gray, and it's not Pathfinder Scoutvision. Wonder if it was intentional.

Yes, it was an intentional.. Ubi changed it so that all the goggles from Splinter Cell, will give you the special nightvision filter.

@masterotheforce The dude who commented after you explained it pretty clearly. Sure I may have forgot to post what class I was playing but I'm more than sure I noted that the grey night vision was linked to cosmetics I was using and NOT to character class. Additionally I mentioned I tested by swapping cosmetics and was able to switch between grey and green night vision on the fly. That should have been the first hint it was unrelated to pathfinder. The second hint was the short video I record whose link I posted, the video which paragraph 3 described in it's entirety. I don't understand how you could confuse it.

You think they'll ever give the option for green night vision on the splinter cell stuff. Splintercell blacklist used green night vision any how and we already have the sonar vision as an ability so I don't see the point in grey night vision. Hell at this point I think green is more associated with splintercell than anything. Besides as I stated in my original post, I find it harder to see with the grey vision because of the poor contrast. Grey vison with black for distant objects is just so much inferior to green vision with black. I mean just look at how much more defined the leaves are in your own screen shot with the green vs the grey. I really hate the idea that I'm forced into a specific feature set for something that's supposed to be cosmetic and something I paid for (in the case of the echelon set, I paid for the splintercell DLC). And yes I realize I sound like an old man complaining about my eyes.

Ideally, they would let us choose what nightvision filter to use, instead of locking them to specific cosmetic items. Because I like the new filter, but I prefer using a helmet with NODs on my character.

I've already post about it a while ago. I do have the same thought as you: the greyish night vision sucks. I hope they will give us the possibility to change that soon...
