Since i'm gonna go with spoilers here based on what i read from the datamined stuff read at your own risk about what i believe once again just guessing what will be the future of the game

    Spoiler:  Show
After we kill Faye lau and get the blame for her killing the president, our agent will be considered a rogue by the people despite not being the one responsable for anything that happened, keener watch will activate some protocol thinking that our agent got rogue showing new coordinates, where our agent will travel to looking for clues on how to fix the situation and to investigate what keener planned, thus a new map and open world area with new factions and characters like WONY.

In terms of gameplay it will be the same as warlords, a big area with new factions and leaders for you to take down, new characters to interact with, story will be just a bit more dark since people will just think you are also one of keeners rogue so you will be interacting with them more plot wise without being openly hostile to everyone, same way new targets will not just be a bunch of rogue agents big manhunts. Seasons system will repeat in a new area for the entirety of Year 3 and it will be the last, same deal with more gear dropping each season and exotics so a repetition on warlords but a heavy focus on quality of life and polish of older content (PVP, kenly and Summit)

I'm 100% in on any paid DLC with map and mission expansions and a new game mode. The only thing I'm not doing is refarming all my gear if they do a level 50 gear update. At that point it's over for me. Hopefully there is some major content coming, but I'm starting to doubt it since nothing has even been hinted at and the game gets more baron every day. Another year of recycled seasons isn't something I'll even consider doing. So boring.

I think we will most likely get an expansion this year similar to WoNY. My reasoning is that if they're not going to work on Division 3 they will probably want to use TD2 to generate additional revenue and keep it alive as long as possible. Red Storm's Twitter account currently has a Rogue Agent skull emblem as its header, so it might be that they've been handed TD2 stuff to keep it going whilst MASSIVE go off and work on their other projects.

An expansion would make some sense in that the assets are there to use, so if they've built a new play area they (probably) have most of what they need to start with, and if that is the route they've gone down then its probably nearing completion anyway.

Of course, with so much speculation and so many options, it could go in any direction and it would be foolish to speculate too much until we have any solid news.

However, I do hope today's announcement does not mean the end of the Division games, because it has been a very long time since I've enjoyed a fictional modern setting with gameplay I genuinely do like.

I doubt it, considering they scrapped the plans for the "Nightmare" event and turned it into more outfits. The amount of work for a new DLC considerably outscales the amount of work it takes to just make a new game mode or event with current assets. If they can't even manage to deliver content they had already promised, I find it unlikely they would have the nerve to ask people to pay more money for content that was developed in lieu of keeping their word.

I don't know. I still think it's still likely that Division 3 is coming soon. Star wars game is still a few years out. I believe Avatar is coming next year. Ubisoft has to release something this year. The narrative seasonal content ends with Faye Lau this season. If we kill Faye Lau at end of this season, what character will continue the storyline? Bardon Schaeffer and Aaron Keener are dead lol. (Terrible decision by the writers to kill off Aaron Keener as a plot device) Who else will carry the storyline? This is why a new game makes sense, New game, a new storyline, a new narrative. I just don't think another expansion will work with the current technical limitations of current-gen consoles, some content has to be removed to make room for new content. This is why Bungie vaulted a lot of content for Destiny 2, the game became way too big, which made the game too difficult to maintain. The current live team struggles to maintain the current state of the game.

There are other studios that are capable to manage the IP. I think Massive will pass the torch to Redstorm. A creative direction by Terry Spier will push the game forward unlike Julian Gerighty's creative vision which ruined the franchise imo. It would be cool to see if there was an ETF-DZ type spin-off made by Redstorm with Raytracing with the snowdrop engine.

    All speculation on my part.

    I agree.
It could go in any direction.

While it's not a Clancy game, Far Cry 6 is scheduled for this year, as is Rainbow Six Quarantine. Whether those will actually happen is a different question.

I might be in the minority here, but Girls Frontline crossover would be pretty awesome! Might satisfy some of the people asking for actual female animations/apparel/models too.

But truthfully, I think Division 2 is on life support. They cancelled Nightmare to "focus on other projects". And those projects are clearly and obviously Avatar and Star Wars.

Given the almost total lack of attention and QC on Division 2 lately, I really don't see any hints or evidence of year 3 content outside of recycled seasonal events.

Seeing how they have been working on Avatar since TD days and starting on Star Wars. I would expect this game to dwindle away and be a forgotten after thought.

There will be a new game mode called The Basement.

It is the same as The Summit but you go down 100 floors.
