Ctrl key causes screen to go black for ~2.8 seconds

Under Mouse Properties > Pointer Options it "Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key" is on, when in game, pressing the CTRL key causes the screen to go black for 2-3 seconds.

    Ryzen 5 2600
    16 gb ram
    GTX 1060 6gb
Dual Monitors: running on Acer EI342CKR Pbmiippx (3440x1440 Freesync2) with generic 1080 monitor secondary monitor

It happens with in dx11 and dx12, gsync enabled or disabled.

Any suggestions other than don't turn the setting on?

I finally had a chance to do all that but it did not change anything.

I also noticed something similar when I adjust the volume on my computer. I have a sound blaster omni 5.1. It has a nob that you can turn to adjust the volume. When it does that it displays it's own overlay in the upper left. This may be similar to other Sound blaster products, idk. The screen goes black when I change the volume. It comes back, with the overlay displayed. I can keep adjusting the volume with the overlay displayed, but when it does away (after not being adjusted for a few seconds), the screen goes black again for a couple of seconds.

Thanks fr the update. Have you disabled background applications as part of the troubleshooting steps? As you mentioned overlay still working, it sounds like your applications are still running and this might cause conflicts? Many thanks!

I disable as much as I could. Windows 10 has many background applications.

The volume popup is a part of Windows 10.
