Best audio setup PS5 & XBOX Series X/S

Been a while since I posted here, probably 5-6 years. But I just got a PS5 and wanted to boot up the old Rocksmith game.

However, I just noticed that the PS5 doesn't have an optical output (insert record scratch sound effect), and I now have that old dreadful lag again.

Anybody who got any tips on best setup? I've already turned of every audio setting in the TV i could find. I've managed to get it down to playable, albeit not yet enjoyable.

Is there any cheap cable thing you could buy that splits the HDMI into video/audio? Or do you need something suuuper serious to get it down to last gen lag?

I wonder if you can stream audio from the PS5 via bluetooth?

I think it might be doable to connect but isn't bluetooth connection slower than HDMI (I am like Jon Snow, I know nothing)

I had this exact same problem with PS5. Astro has made a HDMI to optical adapter and I would have bought it but it was sold out then. Now they seem to have it in stock again.

I ended up buying an USB DAC with an optical output and now the lag is tolerable again.

Is it just barely tolerable or quite alright? Do you think something like this could suffice (HDMI in to Optical out)? Or are you better of with the Astro one, unfortunately they do not ship to Sweden :’(

I'd say the lag is same as with PS4 now so that's alright for me. Maybe it could be even lower with analog connectors but I'm happy with this. If you buy a HDMI converter make sure that it supports all the features that your TV has, e.g. I'm not sure if the adapter you linked supports HDR. PS5 supports HDMI 2.1 but that's so new technology that not many adapters or TVs have it yet.

Ah, thanks for the answer! I’ll have to look for that.

Last (first) time I set up Rocksmith I had to buy a receiver and speakers. This time I might only need to buy a converter 😅 it’s getting less expensive at least

Found a different link on Astros where they shipped worldwide. Bought one, plugged in the optical into the adapter and now the sound is again lag free 🙏 Thanks for the tip R2, recommend this solution for other PS5 owners.

    Lag

Hello. Side question. I just got rocksmith remastered for PS4. I have a slight lag. I connected audio via optical cable straight to the TV and set the audio out on the PS4 to optical. I'm using TV speakers. Still lagging. Anything else I can do? Thanks.
