In a fit of idiocy I decided to to upgrade the driver on my Creative sound card on My Win XP rig. The update went smoothly, or so the message said, but now, naturally, the computer won't reboot. It's locked on the Safe/Normal/Previous Working Condition cycle. Has to be hard shut down and then on restart returns to the same page. On which nothing works...it just goes through the start up motions then returns to the same page. Cannot access Safe Mode, Normal or any other option. I could find nothing of any use on Google.
    Thanks for any advice.

Well, that sux. Go here Getting into Windows Safe Mode

As a last resort, you could remove the sound card. If you get to the desktop, add/remove programs and uninstall the update.

Thanks Steve_V. It'a looking like I'll have to reload Windows or simply remove the sound card. Easier to do the latter.

FYI, Steve_V, Falcon North West from whom I bought the rig seven years ago, sent me instructions for creating a hard drive diagnostic disc. I ran this, it found the problem and fixed it. I have to say Falcon support is pretty slick.
    Thanks again for your assistance.
