I feel like it would be a fun concept to be able to use the same ability in both ability slots that we have to make the most use of skill builds for the offensive and defensive skill users. I don't see how there is anything wrong with this concepts myself and i think it would make things alot more intresting for the player is in a skill build they could run 2 assault drones or 2 assault turrets for offensive or in the event of "combat healers" they could run 2 repair hives to offer mazimum coverage to support thier team in tough situations.
They would be very against two of the same variant because that would be very over powered.
I would like to be able to use two different kinds of drones or hives at the same time though. Like a fixer drone with a striker drone or a stinger hive with a restorer hive. But then you could run an artificer hive with a stinger hive and we're back to over powered.
I don't know. I know the application doesn't sound over powered to you but it is. Imagine a squad of four players releasing 80 seeker mines at a time. Or 8 striker drones flying around a legendary mission.
I would give you my vote but completely understand why Massive won't.
It would be nice being just a bit stronger but from what i have observed onve they focus on a striker drone in a legendary they just tear it apart even if its a skill teir 6 drone so i think they would still have some balance.
I do like the your mention of how while it could be the same ability maybe the 2nd version has to be one of the varients, that would help to balance the concept out.

Side note for you... Did you know you can put a fixer drone on your turret and that procs the Rigger talents? The drone healing the turret counts as interaction. Just FYI.
