    The atrocious state of Shinobi

As it stands, I don’t think anyone seriously believes Shinobi is in good spot. The current state of Shinobi has turned into a bit of a meme within the community. So I will outline why players like myself are dissatisfied with the current state of Shinobi.

    - Stamina issues: The move set in general requires far too much stamina. I.e Advanced Kick Mix Up under ‘Advanced Mixups’. This staple combo drains some 75% of the stamina bar. That’s just absurd when you consider the most important part of the combo(throwing the chain) can be parried.

    - Overly reliant on ranged GB/Kicks: The further you climb the “ladder” so to speak. The more frequent it becomes players will dodge/parry these tools. Usually resulting in the Shinobi player taking significantly more damage than he/she himself would have even dealt to the opposing player.

    - Heavy attack: Is too slow to be used freely. A kick is almost always required to begin the setup(Sickle Rain). Which results far too often, the kick itself will be stopped against more experienced players.

    - Counter options are weak: I.e Teleport kick into Sickle Rain. The Shinobi player must first gamble by dodging into the enemy hero’s attack. Then pray that the follow up(chain throw) does not get parried to complete the Sickle Rain combo. This is supposed to be the hero’s main niche, yet it is the riskiest and least rewarding aspect.

    - Summary: The Shinobi is a very cool hero theme wise. But the actual gameplay is painful for both the Shinobi player and the opposing hero. Shinobi players don’t want to rely on ranged attacks, and I’m positive those fighting Shinobis don’t want to spend their time dodging these same attacks. But this basically summarizes what a good chunk of other Shinobi players are thinking.

As a rep 70 diamond ranked Shinobi main, I agree with you that Shinobi is not in the right spot.

I don`t play him, but after the changes for pk and nobu, I think shinobi and ara must be revised.

I was honestly beginning to lose hope because this post wasn’t getting any responses. I wasn’t sure if it was because maybe what I said caused a great amount of disagreements and wasn’t worth correcting me. Or nobody really cares and it’s expected of Shinobi player to suffer.

But thank you for the response, I’m glad at least this was read.

I’m all for giving up the silly ranged attacks in favor of making shinobi a close ranged combatant hero.

He will most likely be the last hero to be reworked because you have to design him almost completely a new because his current design is just straight up a dumpster fire.

Shinobi does need a redesign with new attacks and animations. Unfortunately, due to Covid, there is no access to MOCAP for the for honor devs.

Mocap is required to capture movement for new animations like attacks, emotes, and executions. This is why Gryphon has no "new" animations. Instead, they are all recycled from other heroes, just pulled from their data banks.

As soon as mocap is available, I think we will see some interesting new content. They are probably sitting on new executions and emotes already but can't physically enact them. They might be sitting on a new hero too.

Likely because Shinobi is a touchy subject with most of the community. Usually no productive discussion can be had because people get stuck on arguing things like "should he have been nerfed" or "he needs to be redesigned into something else." Both of which have some merit for discussion but don't really move the conversation anywhere productive.

Yes, Shinobi doesn’t have enough stamina. Performing combos, double dodges and feint mixups take up an unreasonable amount of stamina. With Shinobi’s low health, they should atleast have more stamina than the larger characters.

Shinobi’s mixup abilities are too limited and feinting with their heavy attack is not as convincing as other characters heavy feints. This makes Shinobi’s zone attack more reliable as it’s the only opener you can feint into a grab or attack mixup. The problem is the stamina the zone attack costs the Shinobi.

The Shinobi’s double dodge takes too long and often leaves you open to grabs and attacks. The Shinobi’s dodge attack is less reliable as well as its easily miss directed and prone to miss. Not to mention that the dodge attack takes too long to be reliable especially if you dodge to kick which has a long wind up time. The Shinobi should be able to do a dodge attack after a single dodge not just a double.

Slight thread necro but this is the latest Shinobi post so I figured I would reply. I completely agree with the OP that Shinobi needs some love. From my own observations I agree that one of the biggest issues is that the stamina pool seems too low; I am constantly running out of stam when I play Shinobi. The Nukekubi feat seems to be unnoticeable from not using it. I also wouldn't mind the health pool being so low if Yama Uba weren't so useless. Lastly I think his damage is pretty lackluster compared to some of the other heroes. I started playing Jorm a bit more recently and it was night and day how quickly I could take out an enemy compared to the "master assassin" shinobi.
