Hello there!
I'm just going to post this here as a suggestion to be considered if there ever is a QOL patch or an Accessibility update. Be advice, all this suggestions are aimed at the main campaign with its single player and co-op modes.
ICONS
As we all know different icons are used for targets in game when doing recon with the drone, binoculars, or scope. Still there are some things that could be improved regarding the icons on different targets. With the understanding that the game is no longer being worked on, and making the distinction that the color palette swap for icons doesn't really do much for some people (including those with color blindness).
Rebels:
(
Current Icon: circle)
(
Suggested Icon: square)
The rebels, along with the civilians (who cannot be marked) are friendlies that you should be aware of when taking down targets. Because of the shared icon with the Santa Blanca Cartel (SBC) enemies, it is often inevitable to hit Rebels while aiming for SBC enemies in close proximity. A square icon for the Rebels would help distinguish them clearly from other targets in the game.
Spoiler: Show
I understand that the turn of events at the end of the game would justify the Rebels as being circles, but for the long hours of gameplay, for those who have a hard time distinguishing some colors, it would help immensely.
High Value Target (HVT):
(
Current Icon: circle)
(
Suggested Icon: triangle or solid star)
In some missions that require capturing, interrogating, or extracting a mission critical target, the icon is just a yellow circle (white if you have done the mission previously) and new players end up failing the mission after shooting the HVT. A triangle (even with the same color scheme: Yellow/White), would increase the visibility of the HVT among all other NPCs. SBC top tier targets are identified by the crown icon, and that works just fine.
Unidad Heavy:
(
Current Icon: shield)
(
Suggested Icon: chevron inside shield)
Heavy enemies for both Unidad and SBC are represented by a shield. Given the fact that they are two different factions, that Unidad increases an alert level, and becomes more deadly and harder to handle. And that you should be more aware of Unidad's presence near you. It would be helpful to have the chevron show inside the shield icon of Unidad heavy enemies. This way the player(s) can coordinate which targets to prioritize when a large scale firefight develops.
ITEMS
Information is crucial when playing in a more immersive way, by removing all HUD elements you must rely on the items the game gives you.
Binoculars and Drone:
The two most useful tools when playing with HUD off. The downside to it is that at times it is hard to read when you are looking at areas that match the color of the font (black on binoculars, white on the drone). The numbers, compass, time, location, altitude all should have some contrast to it. White font on an opaque black rectangle would improve them both.
Range Finder:
If it was functional, the range finder would become an invaluable tool for snipers. Displaying the range somewhere, either inside the scope or anywhere in the screen would improve long distance shooting skills for players. Currently this can only be done by switching to the binoculars to get a range reading (with the limitation mentioned above). Also, some sniper rifles do have the side rail, but is not accessible. Another thing that could be considered is to make the character look at the range finder when using a "third" scope switch option (the one that changes between A and B for some scopes or 2x and 3x for others). This way there is no dependence on HUD elements.
These are just my suggestions to improve the Quality Of Life of the game. Even though I am a programmer myself, I don't know the level of difficulty of implementing such a changes in a systemic game world, or what impact it could have on other things. These suggestions are aimed strictly towards the main campaign. I'm not familiar with PvP, I don't play PvP, I bought Wildlands looking for the main game / co-op experience. (I do not own or intend to buy the expansions)
Thank you for reading.
