About the lack of communication with us (the players)
Hi there,
usually I hold back on starting topics and throwing my 2 cents in the ring - but holy potato, I just can't anymore.
I loved this game. The good, the bad, everything. But oh dear, you (meaning Ubisoft) are making it harder every single day.
Dropped the game shortly after release, started again in Season 6 and played almost every day since then (even if it was just for the two daily orders) except for some holidays or work-filled days, clocking in at almost 2000 hours playtime according to Steam.
I pushed and advertised the game to my colleagues, my friends - multiple times. Sometimes even successful, despite the oh-so-toxic-community and the oh-so-sh*tty-gameplay-that-surely-has-not-changed-at-all-even-months-after-launch (these-dashes-indicate-sarcasm and arguments people tend to bring up when talking about For Honor, not my actual opinion).
I bought (and yeah sure, throw stones at me) several Steel packs over the last months (or years by now). And I mean the big one. Just to support the game, because as I said before - I loved it.
Everything I could buy, be it the Marching Fire DLC, an upgraded edition of the game for my friends, the Battle Pass - I bought it. All intended as support for this game.
Watching the Warrior's Den became a weekly ritual. I don't have a lot in life, and this was one of the few things I could look forward to every week. When the time came, and the Pope, Damien, Luc and all the others left and the weekly schedule got pulled, I coped with it. "They are doing it for a good reason", I told myself. "They will only show major stuff and use the now-free time for the development of game." Since it made perfect sense, I got used to it.
Everything seemed to go smoothly. We got Year 3 with nice heroes, sweet events - all that good stuff. Year 4 got announced, along with 2 heroes and "the most content filled year of For Honors history". I'll not go into a discussion about the quality, this post is not about that.
Then the virus hit, Y4S1 got delayed. But eventually it began, and the (still ongoing) pandemic surely has had (and still has) an impact on the development this year.
Season 2 came and went, Season 3 came and went. Guess who bought Warmonger and all Battle Passes on release? Right. Again, to support the game.
Let's go back to October for a moment, because that was the time things started to go down hill drastically. Remember the issue of not receiving rewards after matches? Or being only able to play custom matches? Sure, that got looked into once it hit the majority of the player base - but to this day (at least to my knowledge) several players are still affected by this, mostly in remote regions where not many players/customers are located.
I will not even mention the 7-0...04 disconnects all the time, or the occasional "Goup Leader Only Bug".
Next big thing was Crossplay - possibly the one and only saving grace for this game. All 3 playerbases playing together, bringing some life and hope back to the matchmaking times and desolate gamemodes. All crushed by one clarification post that only came after the community asked for weeks.
And now, my personal final straw, the release of Y4S4.
Like always, Battle Pass and Gryphon were bought right on release day. Played a few matches, got a few levels, all fine and well.
But, like many others, I bought Gryphon via Steam and therefore got my Early Access basically shortened by almost 5 days.
The issue got noticed by Ubisoft 1 day after it appeared and complaints started to pour in. A bit later then came a tweet, stating that it's being looked into. And an answer to a post on this forum, basically saying the exact same thing.
Otherwise: nothing. Not a word. And I'm not even mad I got scammed of almost 5 days of Early Access, I'm just disappointed that we, the players, are not even worth a message. The issue was solved about 24 hours ago as of writing this right now, and there is not even an official "Hi, we fixed it. Sorry for the inconveniences." anywhere to be found. Just nothing. And a compensation for the lost time of any sort it not even worth thinking about.
Guess I was just oblivious to think that Ubisoft, or at least the For Honor devs and community managers, would care at least a tiny little bit about us, their players and customers. One can never learn enough.
The pile of negative stuff happening with or around For Honor just seems to get bigger and bigger, while small positives like the CCU just get buried underneath.
It's kind of sad, really. I loved this game.
To end this, I'll just say that I don't expect anyone to agree or disagree. It would be nice to get an answer from Ubi though, but I don't have much hope.
And yes, I know the support staff is more than busy. Just to be clear: I am not asking for a fully written blogpost or a video documentary on the bugfixing process - just a short message would have been enough (not to mention it would have been professional).
Also please don't take this the wrong way - this is not supposed to be a bash or to start a witchhunt. Just some steam I had to let off.
In any case, have a nice day and stay safe everyone.
