My thoughts on the Shugoki changes on the current testing grounds

I have been a Shugoki main since season 1 of For Honor. I played the game fairly casually and even took a decently long break from the game. When I heard about the new season, which was coming out with changes to Shugoki, I was quick to hop back on and get ready for the update. After about a week of being back in the game the new season started and I played the testing grounds for a few hours. (Specifically Duels)

So now that I have introductions out of the way, I would like to give my feed back on the Shugoki changes. The very moment I saw that the HA (Hyper Armor) was being removed from Shugoki's lights and embrace, I knew what was about to happen before I even played it on the testing grounds. I was getting constantly rushed with fast attacks which Shugoki's old light attacks would have been able to counter. I understand that the HA lights were a bit cheese but the impact is noticable when it was removed. The loss of HA on Shugoki's embrace was uncalled for in my opinion. The move was already high risk high reward but seeing that literally any hero with a side dodge attack can completely counter his embrace now is insanely broken. The move rewards you when the enemy is too careless, but the loss of HA almost completely ruins that. Especially when you go against characters with fast heavy attacks.

So what about the new moves? Do they justify these major downgrades? The simple answer is no. Let's start with the"better" of the 2 new moves, the forward dodge heavy. I assume the idea of adding this was to stop
enemies who are out of stamina from just constantly dodging backwards to avoid you. The problem is that for one, the attack is slow and easy to block or parry. Like what stops the enemy from just keeping your block upwards? (I had this done to me multiple times and it completely countered the move) The only time I got real use out this move is when I got a hit at the perfect time when the enemies dodge was just about to come to the end. The side dodge headbutt is terrible for so many reasons. The move is slow and easy to dodge. Also headbutt is easily the worst bash in the game because it doesn't guarantee anything, not even a light attack. It can even be a hindrance to you because people can just attack right after the headbutt hits and since Shugoki's lights don't have HA, they can get away with it if you try to follow it up with anything. The stun effect isn't that helpful either because it goes away far too quickly. The only good thing about headbutt is that it cancels attack like every other bashs, but that's it.

My final verdict on the Shugoki changes is that for what Shugoki gained is not good enough to justify removing HA from his lights and embrace. In all honesty I could live without the HA on lights, it makes it more challenging for Shugoki, but losing HA on embrace kind of cripples him a bit too much and once again the two new moves are not very good. I would recommend that the forward dodge should get HA and unblockable, plus you should be able to cancel it. This would give Shugoki a nice 50/50 for enemies who run out of stamina and a good opening move, because Shugoki lacks in that department. Headbutt needs to be buffed a lot, it should at least give you a free light attack, and perhaps increase the time of the stun effect.

One more thing that I forgot to mention is that the forward dodge heavy does not give an execution on kill, which makes no sense and should be changed.

I can understand why the removal of HA from Demon's Embrace is a problem to Shugo players. He needs the HA to keep his mix-up relevant. Personally, I don't mind the change, since it is just a Testing Ground and nothing is confirmed to make it into the game. Also, I'm not a Shugo expert, I'm literally rep 0 lvl 2 with him, so I can agree if anybody tells me that my opinion on Shugo does not matter.

    BUT

The HA on the light openers had to go, that stuff was (still is in the main game) just unbearable and I'm quite sure that most of the community agrees with me on that one.

I like that some characters have something that other don't, why remove armor on light if it keeps game fresh and makes you change your strategy depending on opponent's hero. I dont like that all frame data was standardized, everyone feesl the same while they not supposed to.

On ps4 shugoki is a worst character to fight agains in low tier duels.
HA on lights is terrible. He could just go for his mixup in the middle of the enemy chain.
Demons embrace. After CCU it became impossible to react to it. And fightnig him is not fun. Especially when you go oos. I'm an average player. But I have a pretty high % of wins on shugo.

As I said towards the end of the post, I am completely fine with the removal of HA on lights. I play on xbox and the people I go up against can usually dodge embrace in most circumstances. I think the reason why people find it difficult to avoid is because it is easy to be fooled by the charged heavy feint into embrace. That is how I land embrace most of the time. I feel that the HA on embrace acts as an insurance that it hits even when the enemy's heavy attack still hits after falling for the charged heavy feint. Ever since the change I felt cheated out of a few embraces, even after fooling enemies with the charge heavy feint because their heavy still hit. I can understand the tracking on embrace can be frustrating to deal with, but I feel that the HA is necessary for the reason that I stated above.
