Freeze's new video highlights and explains this matter better than I can, so I'm personally indifferent.

To narrow down some questions a little, I'll begin by stating I don't play duels. Most of my learned fighting experience is solely based from trial and error in dominion alone. I tend to perform a lot better in 1vX scenarios as opposed to 1v1, but not always.

It's hard to tell what kind of opposition I face most of the time; I'll face other players with reps totaling 400 or more but they'll play terribly or have a bad game. Sometimes I'll just get bamboozled, happens to the best of us. I may do everything in my power to stall and mitigate damage, but against a coordinated gank it can be tough to come out on top all the time. I can understand when I'm going against good players, and find it obvious when I'm going against bad players.

For ME, I'm able to still pretty much react to a lot of light attacks on old gen. I can understand how that may sound strange but I may just have an above-average reaction time. That's probably why I severely dislike PC For Honor since I can block and everything I throw gets blocked. Don't get me wrong, things are still relatively quick and I can't block everything on old gen, but PC For Honor is unbelievably disgusting in comparison due to how much slower the gameplay feels.

The only time I tend to have trouble with lights and bashes is when the opponent's ping reaches above 90. Input delay is also something I need to take into account, so if I can't rely on a more generous ping of around 40 to 70 then that's when things start to feel a little off when it comes to parry timing.

This is also a matter of the behavioral differences of players in the two platforms. Old gen is fast and chaotic and new gen/PC is reactable and fluid. These two differences in how the games perform significantly showcase how players behave, and maybe I just have a better feel for what players will do when I play on old gen as compared to PC. The last time I played on PC, the duels were longer and drawn out and me and the opponent had more time to adjust to each other. On old gen, fights CAN happen this way, but not unless both players are pretty good and can catch on very quickly. A lot of players on old gen like to capitalize on the fact that things are just not as easy to deal with, and there's a lot of aggression and fast attacks being thrown out. On old gen I need to get in the opponent's head very fast and punish that aggressive offense in order to slow the fight down and change things up. Sometimes I'll just guess and get a light parry, sometimes I guess the wrong side, sometimes I eat a heavy. That's all part of the game and I like how that feels when things are that fast on old gen. I hope I was able to make sense of that.
Lol well if you're just that good it's a different story ahaha.

First, I mostly play Duels and Brawls but I used to play Dominion exclusively. I was never very good at Duels or Brawls and so I played 4v4 and got good at that. Once I started getting good at 1v1 and 2v2 though, I never looked back. I still play Dominion, but I love Duels and Brawls. No feats. No gear buffs. Just skill.

I know what you're talking about on PC with everyone parrying everything. I only played on PC for maybe 4 or 5 reps since the CCU and that's my entire PC experience. My other 280 reps are from Xbox One, and now a few more on my Series X.

I did notice that a strange amount of newer players (on PC) could parry lights like they were nothing. I asked a few of them and every time I'd get a "I have 144fps" or higher even.

The problem with PC For Honor is that no cap exists until you hit a hardware cap at 240fps, so anyone playing below that is at an automatic disadvantage and the gameplay at that framerate is just weird. Defense is indeed too strong there.

That's why I'm so happy with the next gen console version. It's capped at 60fps. It's amazing. It's enough to see everything that's happening but not necessarily enough to react to everything. It still partly relies on reading the opponent and reflexes, just that you at least can see it happening.

Yeah new gen is not as black and white as PC. I got to try it on PS5 this afternoon, it actually felt pretty decent. A little bit easier no doubt, but I still had fun.

Being a good duelist in For Honor is important. I like dominion because I get to duel here and there but also fight multiple people. I think it takes a great deal of character knowledge and skill to be able to fight more than one person at once, and I'm sure others would tend to agree. Some think it's mindless spam, and it can be, but experienced players tend to wipe the floor with players that do mindless things in group fights. Fighting multiple players that know how to gank well and be patient with their team mates is when things get really fun and interesting.

I don't like duels or brawls simply because players tend to make things too personal and things piss me off more in those game modes anyway.

Bahahaha the last paragraph you wrote is 100% true. People get super salty in those modes, especially when you just wipe the floor with them.

I definitely don't think 4v4 modes are just mindless spam. Obviously there are plenty of mindless spammers but they exist in Duels and Brawls too.

Both modes have variations of difficulty depending on circumstance.

In 4v4 modes you can parry a player by first parrying his buddy, so in some cases, you don't even have to beat a superior player, just use his buddy as your own support. LOL.

In duels, you don't have to worry about anything externally, just what's right in front of you. Brawls are usually the same, but sometimes very different.

I always felt like Duels/Brawls were more reliant on raw skill, and 4v4 modes were more reliant on tactics. I came to this conclusion based on the fact that while I was pretty good at Dominion right away, but it took me a while to get good at dueling. Maybe that's just me though?

It's kind of both ways. You need to be able to duel and beat opponents in 1v1 in order to help support your team on and off a point.

As for externals, a lot of people tend not to know who to lock on to. Externaling is a very important trick to use because if someone utilizes a lot of soft feints to lights, you can make things easier by locking into someone else and only focusing on one direction to stop that offense. I do this when I'm fighting two characters that use lights a lot, I'll switch targets back and forth between the two to make it easier to block and get revenge. I'll see a lot of people lock on to character's like Orochi or PK when they're trying to antigank, and they keep getting hit with lights.

If I know someone likes to throw chain lights, I can usually let the first one hit me, lock on to someone else real quick, and externally parry their next light. Good trick to use. I always found duels too easy so I just gravitated to dom to make it harder.
