I think the RNG is fine, but not because I constantly get items I want/need [I haven't gotten an upgrade to my main builds in months, but they're all awful close to full gRoll], I just understand RNG. The Rolls/Attributes/Talents are independent, so I judge the pieces that drop by the numbers, independent of whether the att/talent is what I desire. Loot drops in line with what the Devs have said over various SOTGs.

EVERY Looter Shooter has an overwhelming number of threads complaining about the quality of the loot, even TD1 [I went and checked a bunch when I started posting here to see if I was wrong, since I'm new to Looter Shooters]. I started a thread to find out - turns out most people judge loot subjectively, not objectively. For many, if the Loot is not "an upgrade for them", it's trash.

Take the OP for example. I shared a pick of a Wyvern Chest with 75%HzP, gRoll Skill Damage & Kinetic Momentum last night. That's a full God Roll, talent appropriate chest. They said it was trash [and they just got & trashed three just like it] because they need one with gRoll Skill Damage & gRoll Skill Haste so they can roll WD. This ignores that nobody can tell the difference between 9% vs 10% Skill Damage or 10% vs 12% Skill Haste. Or they could roll a different piece WD if that dropped full gRoll first.

Double dip with most people not being cognizant of the Negativity Bias, while jumping on SSS.. it's a recipe for complaints.

Looter Devs know what they're doing. The formula is mostly set in stone, from decades of experimentation. Also, they offer guaranteed quality drops from Rogue Agents [again, objectively based on rolls, not subjectively based on what the player is desiring].

    I get that I'm a weirdo

Edit: Woot, I'm not alone! What tcarlisle said
Ooh! A nerdy post, I love it! and agree completely.

What would you guys do with this stuff? This is 100% typical of my experience in the game. This is what drops.

To me, this looks like garbage. What do you think? To me, it makes the game pointless. There are parts I enjoy doing but the loot is pointless. It might as well not drop.

Yep is garbage, 99 percent of what I get look like that, even with optimization. but I use mostly skill builds because if u get a skill tier and 1 max stat the other can be recalibrated, which optimizes the gear, the problem with this is getting the talents u want with the at least 1 stat u want

Those are the kind of drops I see on a regular basis. Yet the haters in these forums brag about how perfect RNG is, mostly because because they keep seeing god-rolled items they need or want on a regular basis. Massive needs to find that balance where we all get god-rolled from time to time and we get to feel rewarded for playing the game.
The first 2 or 3 weeks after Summit release it made 7 builds doing legendary, all my gear came from floor 80 to 99, I never got anything good from lower floors and only 1 exotic drop from a hunter and like 2 or 3 god rolled guns, 1 that I actually use, out of 10 fight. This is in a group, I have got anything good solo since I beat the story in dc. And since the first 3 weeks after Summit release, I might have had a dozen drops that were useable, out of around 150 hrs.

That's how it's supposed to work (which is different from whether it feels rewarding)

I've noticed people who dump on the game are more likely to get bad loot. Perhaps they should try saying something positive about it more often
Well I dumped on the game for months then after Summit released I talked about all the great gear I got out of legendary Summit and 2 weeks later it went back to 99 percent garbage and has been that way ever since.

You want to laugh? Collect 20 cache's from leveling up, DZ, Conflict, what ever. Put 100 pieces of gear in your inventory so that when you open a cache, it falls on the ground in the whitehouse/where ever you are. Now, how many of those items did you keep?

    Fun game to play.

RNGesus can be a streaky mother ****** ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Unless you play this as a full time job, you're not going to see, in real time, yourself overperforming, underperforming or regressing to the mean. I can go a month without an upgrade*, them get 3 or 4 to drop in a week. Randomness is randomness, for better or worse. The problem is, without some background in statistics, it all feels like ******** when it's not rolling in your favor. Feels are strong [even if irrational]. Plus, some people just could have worse luck, which sucks.

*I literally could not get a Sweet Dreams to drop for months when it first released. It was a running joke in our Clan. I think I've had a dozen drop or rewarded since September.

The fact that it has never taken me more than about a week (playing 1-2 hrs per night) to farm for a complete build, to me that indicates they did RNG fairly well. In my experience, I have always found that at any point in time I am playing with a build that is made up almost completely from items that have been "rewarded" as opposed to "looted"

While the game might now vomit pieces you need for your dream build, if you happen to be working on making a build that leverages the latest new toys you should not have a problem. For example, hunters fury with memento. These pieces are puked in your face throughout the season event. It would be pretty much impossible to put serious time towards the season events and not be able to put together this build. I recently decided to put to pasture my build and playstyle and adopt the latest and greatest gear and a play style that I wouldn't pick in a million years, and I have been having a great time.

But if you are trying to put together something else, well, that means your chances are lowered -- because the season events are puking things you just don't need. So since the RNG is tilted way in favor of the newest sets, that makes the chance of getting anything else a lot less.

As gamers, most of us probably have an unhealthy need for instant gratification. If you could bang this game out in a week, and end up in the end game with what I call an "apex" build, that would be a problem. By apex, I mean a build that is so maximized it may never be able to be improved.

That really is the key problem -- we want the game to provide that kind if instant gratification, and then when we get to that apex build rapidly, now we are bummed because "there is no reason to play" because everything that drops is crap. Because the players hit the ceiling and get bored.

We just can't have it both ways. We can't expect to achieve an apex build in days or weeks, and also expect there to be no ceiling. That is just an impossible set of expectations. It has to take months and hundreds -- if not thousands -- of hours.

And when we hit the ceiling, we expect the game to raise that ceiling. We need new gear sets, new weapons, new exotics, etc. And as those are dumped into the game, your apex build of yesterday is no longer an apex build. Now you feel "nerfed", and frustrated because you gave to work all over again to get back to the top.

My advice to anyone is simple -- be patient. If you are not at an apex build point, don't despair and certainly don't rush it. Instead you should enjoy it. If one piece is all you need to make your build apex, when that piece drops you should have mixed feelings about it. Yeah, because it dropped! Followed by "what now?"

When you are at one apex build, then the "what now" is either play the game as long as you enjoy it, or try to put together another build. Play with the new toys. Expand your play style a bit. IF one has no interest in doing that, then one really shouldn't wish the apex build comes quickly, because when it does that is pretty much the end of the road.
Honestly surprised most people don't have this mentality

Last night it was 1 gun, and it was a "hold it till the Opti Station comes out" piece. So if the average is 3 pieces of loot per box, that's 60 pieces. Out of 60 pieces of loot, I kept 1, and only cause I know gear Optimization is coming. That's 1.7%..... LOL

This happens multiple times a week with those same results being typical.

Stop looking at the loot, just deconstruct it, then you never get bad drops because it's all just materials. If your mats are all full, then just ignore the loot altogether until you need materials again.
