Normally I'd crap on a necro, but man is it interesting to see my own opinions from back then. I'm still pretty critical of the direction the game has gone, but I've definitely shifted more towards disliking how Ubi/Massive has mishandled the later stages of the game.

But one thing is clear: No, the loot system isn't out to get you. We literally just went over this topic only a couple weeks ago with proof. Random is random. You're not supposed to be showered in "good" loot. And just because drops don't meet your expectations doesn't mean that the devs built the system to crap on you.

I would like you to do a test for me in -game and that goes for anyone reading this, because alot of the time iv'e noticed a pattern.

Now before i ask you, i'm not trying think it's a conspiracy or deliberate by the devs i just think it's a bizarre coincidence but tests will either confirm or just plain deny/prove i'm wrong/Barking up the wrong tree

Can you please just play the open world for a bit with different builds/loadouts and tell me what weapons you have equipped ands what weapons drop for you ( not weapon targeted) go into Armour/mask/holster area's etc etc.

Reason i ask is because whatever weapon drops or i get from open world chests seems to be what i have equipped. i know might be just luck/coincidence right. Probably.

As an example or two. i equipped my Cowboy Rifle build with the 1886 a weapon i only have 1 of and rarely see, yet the first 3 weapon drops in that session were 1886 rifles (hadn't seen one for months) the area was mask targeted loot.

Same with my LMG build even though it was the Pestilence, every weapon drop i got was an LMG, the targeted loot area was chest Armour. Yet i swapped out my build and the next odd drop or two were AR's (my load out was AR/SMG.

Yeah i'm probably wrong but i have noticed this every now and then.

Could be just the algorithm/RNG and pure luck.

PS: i did get the respective targeted loot drops as well.

The real question I would ask is why you're opening open world chests after leveling up. They don't provide anything other than normal/story level loot. So unless you want something to deconstruct, it's pointless to open.

Unless you meant CP big crates?

But I'll keep track of what drops. Although I'll say that my initial impression is that it's pretty random, with only some minor influence from targeted loot.

Before you ask others to do extra work to test for you, it would be best (and polite) to do the tests yourself. And I'd also suggest discussion here first to design a good test.

Unfortunately, your test so far ("look at the first three items that drop," as far as I can tell) won't produce any useful result: the sample size is just too small. If weapon drops are completely randrom, there's a 1 in 27 chance that those three will be only what you're carrying, and 1 in 9 chance that two of the three will be.

I suggest that for anything to do with loot, you look at no less than twenty drops and write them down. (People "remember" what they expected to happen due to confirmation bias; writing down the items as or shortly after you get them helps avoid this.)

Well considering they are a good source of mats or selling on, i open everything and anything anyway (no big deal really)

As for it being Random yeah i guess, like i said maybe it was coincidence (which i mentioned) i'm not scared of being wrong, whatever the outcome.

    PS: Thanks anyway.

Hope it didn't put you out of your way or ruin your gametime, and i hope you didn't think of me being rude to you, lest what others think.

I certainly didn't want to come across as being a fkg a-hole, if so i'll take my leave from this forum if i was.

    My apologies. Peace:

Digging into the mechanics of the game is half the fun. And understanding those things makes me a better player. I try not to burn people for just asking questions. But the topic of loot bias comes up a lot, so it can sometimes be difficult to stay civil. I hope I didn't come across as too gruff.

If you deconstruct most of the weapons and gear you pick up during normal play you'll virtually always be full on receiver parts and protective fabric, and after a while your brand-specific materials will be full most of the time, too. So what you really will find yourself short of will be steel, electronics, and the like, and you don't get much of these from deconstructing weapons.

Opening a weapon or gear crate does take extra time, as it's significantly slower than picking up materials from a crafting materials bag or box. I still do it on my crafting materials runs, but more out of habit than because I really think it's a good idea. But if you're not concerned about moving from point A to B in the open world as quickly as possible, opening open-world weapon/gear crates isn't harmful, and the cost is amortized over the number of players if you're all doing it, anyway.

With these crates, in the open world, it's not so bad. Sometimes something comes up.

^ You must be a very lucky person, should buy some lottery tickets.
I only get purples or yellows with very low stats from those open-world random crates.

On another plane, lots of exotics this week, every day, even two per drop. Not very good ones, but a big change after I was getting one every three weeks on average.

This is probably the most common misunderstanding here. You can't tell at all if he's lucky because you don't know the rate of drops. If those were the only three crates he's opened this week, he's very lucky. If those are three out of a thousand he's opened this week, he's not very lucky at all.

Try spending a month recording every open-world crate drop you get that's yellow and has an over 50% average of all three attributes. I think you'll find you're quite wrong that you get only very low stats. If you count the total number of pickups as well, I think you'll find that you're getting the expected (though low) rate of high-quality drops from those.

Yup, that happens from time to time. Once in a single day I got four Acosta's Go Bag exotics from open-world faction lockboxes. Today I got one as well from the only faction lockbox I opened. Most days I get none.
