    Does anyone play anymore?

So, I played the game a few years ago on PS4, but I've recently made a purchase for the PC version after purchasing a gaming rig.

However, the servers seem absolutely dead. Like I think I've seen about 6 or 7 players and I'm level 14 now. It's pretty boring and actually rather difficult at times to play this game alone! I can run a whole mission with matchmaking enabled and it finds absolutely nobody. I can press G while on the map to leave it running and I don't match anyone at all.

So, does anyone still play this game or is it dead and I'm wasting my time? I've got the division 2 also but I want to play through number 1 first.

There was an influx of new players after the free give away some months back. Other than that, there aren't a lot in the level up phase. Once you hit end game, you'll see the game is alive and well. Does it have the level it did 4.5 years ago? No, not even close. But, you should be able to find a match relatively quickly for most missions. There is a Global Event coming out next week. You'll see the amount of players jump up during those. Speaking of which, once you are at the end game, the GE's are the best way to get the good gear in regards to time spent vs rewards gained. Classified gear sets are much easier to come by.

On TD1 vs TD2. TD2 does have a couple of story lines that come from TD1 so it is nice to know the back story. But, in my opinion, TD1 is MUCH better. I've got more than 3,500 hours now in TD1 across 3 accounts, but ~100 in TD2.

Really? Maybe not for experienced players but I am getting owned in the DZ trying to get some good gear. Even even PvE seems impossible!

Fair enough thanks for the reply. Also why would you say that TD1 is better than TD2?

Also, where can I find players that'll want to join in the DZ and help each other get some gear?

Likely the best place to find match for DZ would be to post LFG (looking for group) in the terminal / Penn Plaza area. I don't DZ anymore so not much help there. But, due to the fact that the DZ was by far the best gear when the game was released, people think the DZ is the only/best way to gear up. That hasn't been the case for quite a while. If you enjoy PvP, then it isn't bad. However, if you are like me and despise that social experiment then some of the other ways like the LZ bosses or doing the boring, but fruitful wave 10 runs in resistance will be the best route. However, resistance is only end game, and the bosses only appear after certain elements are done. I am not sure if it is specific missions, upgrade your base a certain amount or what. But, at the end game, I'd suggest running them and when the Global Events are on, set aside extra gaming time if possible.

If you are struggling while leveling up I'd make these suggestions:

This game is a cover-based shooter. COVER based. Some only use it occasionally and that is the problem. If you do, great. Learn the cover mechanics inside and out. Cover to cover moves particularly.
While leveling up, keep your gear relatively close to your level. What I did on my 11th full playthru (across 3 accounts) was to always buy and replace the lowest level item every time I leveled up. But, the main weapon I'd do at least every 2-3 levels unless it was really good. I've ran gear pieces that were further down with success.
Pay attention to how those gear items are rolled as far as the base stats. In other words, if you are going for a firearms build like most people do, then split all your gear across Firearms and Stamina and largely ignore Electronics. If you are aiming for a skill based build, then emphasize Electronics. So many times I have seen people equip the wrong type just because it had better armor rating.
Once you get up to the levels where you start getting gear stat attributes (which you should be at level 14, at least blue), keep an eye open for holsters, and in particularly the holsters. They are the only gear item that by itself can boost all 3 stats (purple or above). So, this is one I tried to always keep up within a level or two. If you find one at a safe house, you can revisit it as needed to buy another. Note that the vendor reset happens on Fridays so if it disappears, that is the reason.
Lastly, team up. You should have better luck in the LZ to matchmake, but still not a lot because of your level. I don't have any characters at your level anymore but could help bump your level up a few and we could talk about tactics and such. I am on PC if you want a hand. Just add me. I generally go solo, but I am usually down to help someone. GE's might be the exception as I hit them hard for all the GE credits.

    Oh, I almost forgot...
With TD1 being so good by version 1.6 or so, all they had to do is take the formula. Change the location, or maybe even just the season. Add or change the factions, introduce some new skills and maybe weapons and they'd have a golden goose. They didn't. I'll admit the deviation wasn't as bad from TD1 to TD2 as Ubi's Wildlands to Breakpoint was, but still quite a change.

There are numerous things I didn't like with TD2. One, they didn't offer SLI support and the TD2 was optimized poorly. Even with a 2080ti, I could only manage ~35fps at 4k. TD1 supports SLI and it always averaged much higher. Probably 65-70fps at 4k.

The characters in TD2 run like you've got bricks in your backpack and a load in your pants. Simply annoying...

TD2 had a TON of glass walls. It may still. I haven't played it since WoNY came out.

One of my biggest annoyances with TD2 was when nearing the end game. In TD1, you manually level up the world tier level and could also go back down. In TD2, without warning, it will advance the WT level automatically with no warning and there is no way to go back. I had stuff I wanted to do before that. I literally alt-F4'd the game and haven't played since even though I have 3 other characters NOT at the end game.

TD1 was considered somewhat empty in the open world, particularly at the end game. TD2 worked to remedy this. They brought the factions into more prominence. There are more enemies everywhere. It really sucks to have cleared an area and suddenly more spawn/appear right where you are. That was the right idea, just seemed to miss the mark a little.

Thank you so much for the detailed and lengthy response, I took a lot from that

Okay so what is LZ and what are GE credits?

But yeah can add me if you want, not sure how to do that yet as new to ubisoft connect/uplay. Literally use steam for everything.

By the way I am going for a toughness/stamina build, I like sniper rifles. Not keen on assault rifles. But I also use an SMG with good stability for close range shootouts. I'm an average at shooting games so I need toughness/stamina at least until I improve

LZ = Light Zone. That's the informal name for the map outside/around the dark zone.

GE credits are obtained ONLY during Global Events (GE's for short). They run exactly a week. During that week, most things you do will generate GE credits and those can be spent in a special room in the terminal (between crafting tables and the blueprint vendor). The GE's are aimed completely at the end game. I think you can get a very, very small amount of credits before level 30 but not enough to get anywhere. GE's all have something unique about them in the way that it affects both you as a player, as well as NPC's. The special ability during the GE"s do not affect the PVP portions of the game. Anyway, during the week long GE, you will spend the credits and can purchase a cache with one of 3 or 4 gear sets. If you are level 14, it sounds like you might not be ready for this one next week, but should be ready by the next one after that.

For a sniper rifle build, I usually go slightly higher firearms than stamina, but it is never a bad idea to reserve some extra stamina early on.

One thing I didn't think to ask, are you doing the things to level up your Base of Operations, particularly the Medial wing? Doing those tasks to upgrade, unlocks talents and skills which can be infinitely helpful.

I think the new UConnect version is similar to the old UPlay client. Easy way, is while in-game, hit "Shift-F2" to directly open it and can add from there. I know one can do it straight from UConnect without being in game but I don't remember. I don't add many either. I'm about to log off for the day (work). I'll be on most evenings between now and Sunday.

That's what I mean, the recoil is low so at close range with an SMG I can just unload should I get rushed. Getting rinsed by NPC's, hate to think what would happen PvP...
