I have just started to hook with other players and I wear headphones and a mic, I seem to be the only one, not being able to communicate with the team is a downfall I'm finding, not knowing whos doing what, it's like where a team but not a team if you get my drift, it's like a organised chaos, and putting in the time, after time not knowing what the other members of the teams objective is, shooting the hell out of wave after wave, "for what". Killing just for the sake of killing, in any battle there is a objective.
Is not speaking to others in your team the norm.
One can't really control others... I never used to use a mic because I don't speak well at all. I stutter, get tripped over words, etc. I used the text chat. But, games like this that are real-time eventually led me to "just get over it". That said, as long as the teammates can understand (language), then really only one or two people really NEED to have a mic. These are particularly important in Incursions where you've got to do things at the same time like on Dragon's Nest. Even on Stolen Signal knowing when to 'kite' the boss until the waves are cleared so you don't get overwhelmed. Or, when the carrier no longer needs protected from the mini-guns. But, in between missions or to discuss the tactics or builds, text chat does work, although slower.
Yes 2 people communicating is enough, more would confuse things even more. Like you said certain times require it more than others, your every day missions runs everyone knows whats ahead, but falcon lost ect ect it's a bonus, or all that time spent could be for nothing for "all"of the team. I have learnt a lot from where more experienced players position themselves. Even the best get taken out. The different playing styles, as the age old saying goes fools rush in.
As much as anything, I mean for all 4 to communicate before missions, or in between stages like on Stolen Signal. Depending on what other people have, I may use 4 builds through that mission in a single run. Being able to discuss who will cover which JTF person in the last room, and who is going to arm the explosives in the last stage, and who is going to cover/protect them. So many people hate that mission. I like it because it seems to take more tactics and group composition is important too.
I am generally a conservative player, but there are (rare) occasions where rushing the enemy or a position is the best measure. That seems to take experience of the mission and your characters abilities, to know when it is appropriate to do so.
One 4 person mission in the UG with all directives active, a guy bragged the whole mission about how much damage he was doing compared to the rest of us. He was pure glass cannon. I kept telling him he needed to back it down a notch. He went down often, and countless times, my other team mates went down trying to revive him. I sent the others a PM and said the more times he goes down, the slower we should revive him. By the end, he even respawned a couple of times. LOL When the mission ended, I told him why it took us longer and longer to revive him. We don't play as his personal combat medic just to keep reviving him.
Just last night, someone repeatedly kept putting "T" in the chat box. Anyway, a new player asked what T was. I told them it stood for "Tool" and is generally needed only for poor players. LOL (I then did post I was joking afterwards) It got a lot of laughs. Even from the "T" guy.![]()
