PS5 HD camera not compatible with JD2021 ??!! This is a very poor decision at launch.

    Hi Ubi-Milky,

Thank you for looking into this matter. My family have been a JD fans for many years - we played mostly on PS4 with PS4 camera. To us, this is the only way to play JD.

We recently got a PS5 and PS5 HD camera. Yesterday, I surprised my kids with JD2021 (on launch day!) ... but much to all our disappointments, we found out that the only way to play this at our is through holding a cell phone in our hand.

Why is this PS5 version launched without support on the next gen PS5 HD camera?

There is currently no adaptor available to use the old PS4 camera on PS5 system. I know Sony has said PS4 camera WILL be supported on PS5, but as of today, Sony has not released the adaptor yet.

Playing with phones in hands have so many limitations. For one, I need to find 4 handphones at our home, just to allow my kids to play the game. This is absurd.

Knowing (the very little) that I know about the Playstation ecosystem, I am baffled at the decisions made by Ubisoft team, who clearly should have known much more than an average dad like me.

My comments are directed to the Ubisoft team, not to you Ubi-Milky. Thank you for looking into this, and passing on the messages to the right authority. I look forward to hearing a solution to this matter.

    Thanks.

Who exactly at your company thought it was a great idea to have the PS5 version only playable with a smartphone?

My kids have really loved the older Just Dance games, I recently sold the PS4 and all the accessories and bought the PS5 and specifically the PS5 HD camera to prepare for the JD 2021 so my kids could play.
I can tell you this: No, my kids do not enjoy dancing to this game holding a smartphone in their hands. I have a 10 year old and a 5 year old and they want to move freely, not to be worried about dropping their parents smartphones on the floor.

So, for the love of god please enable the motion sensing on the PS5 version so we can use the PS5 camera just as with the PS4 and PS4 camera.

    Please

Or else this is a giant waste of $49.99

Thankfully I didnt purchase this yet. Im in the exact same position, my kids wouldnt touch the mobile phone controls. I bought the hd camera well in advance, just for this game. But held off on the game as I hadnt heard of any support for it. Until its added, i have a $50 tv ornament.

I would suggest asking Sony for that. They didn't say much about PS5 camera functionality and PS4 camera backward compatibility or PS Move backward compatibillity

Yeah to be fair, it's more Sony than Ubisoft. The camera isn't what people thought it was for, it's literally just for facecam whilst streaming and that's it. No motion detection so will not work on Just Dance.

The PS4 camera, does, with an adaptor which you cannot get unless you have a VR headset (currently), and that is for the PS4 version of JD on PS5, the PS5 version has no camera support at all.

I sent my PS5 camera back for a refund this morning.

In general motion sensing can be via PIR (Passive InfraRed) or via CV (computer vision) so there is an algorithm that analyzes the difference between each frame. Obviously there are more methods for motion sensoring in specialised surveillance cameras, but these two are the most common in general "lower end" cameras.

I haven't seen any real specs of the PS5 camera, so I don't know if it has PIR sensors. But it has things that the other camera didn't...dual lense for example and a higher resolution. The new camera can for example recognise a face and zoom in on it.

So software wise, this can definitely be done.

We can blame sony, but as the guy before said, it is absolutely possible to detect and track motion via software. This is something that should be supported, even if its not super accurate.(seriously, the ps4 camera was terrible, but still good enough to be fun. Phones are just horrible)

Im a bit more irked at ubi for not explicitly stating the camera isnt supported. I realize they want more sales, but not stating in big letters somewhere(or even in the FAQ) that the camera isnt supported is just wrong.

My hope is that its not in print because its hard to change when its supported later on. Still doesnt justify the online faq from not mentioning it.

    Greetings,

Do you have any updates on this? The inability to use a camera on PS5 is a serious issue for me. Frankly, without a camera, the game is unusable while playing with friends.

We have the same problem as you all discused. This is absurd. We have 9 years old and he was so disapoined that he start to cry. I just want clear and quick answer from Ubisoft when the camera will have an update according to play JD without smartphone. If there is no update I will want my money back both for camera and JD2021.
