Avatar, Skin, and Alias Reverting to 2020

I really enjoyed dancing to Just Dance 2021 yesterday. I especially love the new scorecard after each dance (even when not on the WDF), and the fact that it now shows you if you earned any X's (which occasionally happens when I'm not able to look at the screen). This is amazing.

I ran into one issue though. When I started the game, it imported my avatar, skin, and alias from Just Dance 2020, which at first seemed cool. However, when I picked out new ones in Just Dance 2021, the avatar, skin, and alias kept reverting back to the ones from 2020. It was seemingly random. I would change the avatar, then the skin would revert back. I would change the skin, and something else would revert back. I would finally get it all set, and after the next dance, one or two of these had reverted back.

Ideally, the game would remember my choice of avatar, skin, and alias for each version of Just Dance. When I open Just Dance 2020, it would be great for it to remember my 2020 choices and equip these when I open it. When I open Just Dance 2021, it would be great if it would remember my 2021 choices. (Prior to 2020, we had a different issue. Whenever I would switch versions of the game, it would change the avatar, skin, and alias to defaults. Since 2020, the game has begun to remember my choices, which is nice.)

But with 2021 yesterday, the game was getting mixed up. It kept pulling up my 2020 choices when I hadn't even left Just Dance 2021 (and 2020 was closed). It would be nice if this got fixed (though I like my choices from 2020, so if the problem persists, I suppose I will just stop trying to change them in 2021).

By the way, the dance Rare Alternate is absolutely stunning. I didn't think the Just Dance team could improve upon God Is a Woman Alternate, but they did. Wow!

Hey greekphysics, thanks for posting your thoughts on the new game, Im happy to hear you are enjoying it!

This issue sounds similar to when some players dancer cards keep resetting changes made.

Can I ask you what platform you are playing on and would you be able to record a video of the changes you make reverting to the 2020 profile you have stored so that we may report this?

Do you also know if your progress is saving? It may be an issue with saving to the hard drive and cloud simultaneously too.

I'm using Xbox One S with Kinect. The last time I used Just Dance 2020, it was also with Xbox Kinect.

If the problem persists, I will try to capture a video of it.

My progress seems to be saving in the following sense. It remembers my high scores from previous sessions. It remembers which avatars, skins, and aliases I have unlocked. It remembers which stickers I have unlocked. My level number continues to increase (and it remembers this with each session).

Sometimes, it allows me to choose a new avatar, skin, or alias temporarily, but when I return to check on it, it always reverts back. Other times, it reverts immediately after I select a new avatar (or skin or alias).

Today I remembered that Ubisoft Club recently changed to Ubi Connect. I hadn't explored Ubi Connect until this evening. According to Ubi Connect, I'm currently playing Just Dance 2021, but it thinks that I have earned 0 stars and don't have any dance time (whereas the game itself shows all the stars and the full dance time). I don't know if this is related or not, just thought I would mention it, just in case.

I also wonder if the DOTW issue may be related to my issue. Yesterday, on two dances I scored high enough to be the DOTW, but my id never showed up. Wondering if it may be a long delay, today I checked the scores, and even though one score that I earned yesterday was good enough to hold up even through today, my id still wasn't displayed. So I don't think it's a delay; it's just not showing at all.

I wonder if other players who are experiencing the DOTW issue are also experiencing the avatar/skin/alias reversion issue... If some players comment on this, perhaps we can find out...

I believe I have a little more information today.

The game seems to be contradicting itself.

Previously, I had danced to the main version of Rare two times. My previous best score was 13,157, which the game clearly displays when I select this song. Yet today when I did the dance for the third time, it claimed that today's score of 13,130 was a new "hi" score (for me), contradicting the fact that it displays 13,157 for me with this song.

It did unlock the alternate version of the dance when I did it for the third time.

It's like the game is keeping track of my progress in the sense that it unlocks avatars, skins, aliases, and alternate tracks as I make progress in the game. It also knows that I hit megastars on the main dance of Buscando because it unlocked the extreme version for me.

But although it will display my personal best score next to each song, it's like it thinks I've never done the song before and that my personal best score is zero, ignoring the scores that it displays next to each song for me, and ignoring my progress in the game.

It seems to be contradicting itself, but I suppose different aspects of the game are interpreting save data differently (or are reading different save data). Something weird is going on.

Today, I tried dancing to Just Dance 2020, for which I've never had any problems with my avatar or Dancer of the Week. I opened Just Dance 2020, changed my avatar, skin, and alias, and then I danced to one of the Unlimited songs and would have had enough points to be Dancer of the Week, but it didn't show my name as Dance of the Week. Also, after I finished the dance, it reverted back to my previous avatar, skin, and alias. So now the problem is affecting both Just Dance 2021 and 2020 (even though I had never had any problems with Just Dance 2020 previously). I'm using Xbox One S with Kinect.

I wonder if this is related to Ubisoft Connect's replacement of Ubisoft Club...

A few weeks back, we had created a new profile on Xbox One S. This profile had never used Just Dance before. Initially, with the new profile, we were able to change the avatar, skin, and alias, and were able to earn Dancer of the Week.

However, recently, we tried changing the skin and it keeps reverting back to what we had previously. Today, we earned 13,203 on a song where the DOTW shows 13,196, yet the game didn't award us Dancer of the Week. So even this new profile is suffering the avatar reversion issues and DOTW issues. There are also certain avatars that require achieving certain progress (like dancing to all 40 of the main songs) that are no longer adding to the progress despite doing new dances (whereas other unlockable avatars are adding to progress; it's a contradiction that some work fine and others don't).

    Hello there greekphysics!

Apologies for the delayed response. Thank you for continuing to update this thread with your findings.

The development team are aware of both issues, Dancer of the Week and the Dancer Card reverting back to 2020 settings, and are investigating these issues. I've passed on your report within this thread so they can take a closer look. At the moment, I'm afraid we have no further information to share. If we require any further information, or have any news to share, we will post it within the forums.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and appreciate your patience as we investigate these further.

It looks like the avatar/skin/alias reversion issue may have been resolved, at least for Just Dance 2021 on Xbox One S. Today, dancing in my profile that I've been using with Just Dance for years, I changed my avatar, skin, and alias, and after dancing to two songs they haven't reverted back (like they had every other time I've tried since release day).
