    Hypothetical situation ...

If you were the team leader responsible for the development of The Division 2 and "kindly" were pressured by the board of the main company to do something, some change, taking advantage of what is already in it, (only one thing) in The Division 2 to keep players interested in him and maybe get some new players, as the successor will be out in less than a year, what would you do?

    A) It would continue to produce new soil missions, hunts, etc; giving special attention to the story (the forgotten and hitherto useless bioreactor, Black Tusk's main command, etc and bringing forgotten enemies on new missions (ex: Mayhem, Vikram Malik, Jack Bonney and the hunter who killed Agent Edwards and other enemies mentioned in ECHOs).

    B) I would give special attention to PvP including new modes and also DZ, including reforming the DZ, giving unique characteristics and game mode to each of them.

    C) Raids, would correct the Iron Horse raid making it more playable for a "team" of eight solo players that is not even the discovery of Dark Hours and would create a new more challenging game mode in both.

    D) Create new modes for teams of PvE players and try to revamp The Summit and Kenly College.

    E) I would use all resources to try to correct bugs and improve equipment, skills, game progression, damage and aim of enemies and especially loot, among others.

    F) None of the options, I would leave the game as it is and leave my whole team focused on The Division 3.

Recalling that the research is taking into account The Division 3 coming out at the most in 1 year, because if it takes longer, for sure you can do more things with The Division 2, such as DLCs and new raids.

They'll do what they are told by the people that sign the checks.

You worded it wrong though. The situation is more like... If you were the developer of a new game, would you pull resources from your project to make changes to an old game that's going into it's third year?

The development team are not "Division 2" developers. They are game developers. Authors do not constantly change their books to make them interesting. They write sequels.

I appreciate changes to the games. I don't expect them though. I may hope for them but I don't demand them.

What I would want is for them to make adjustments. Bring the best of both TD and TD2 together and make the game the best it could be. Yet at this point, the Devs have most likely moved on and we are at a skeleton crew doing maintenance for the most part.

Seeing where they went with TD and TD2, not sure TD3 would be an option. They spent way too much time running players off and not giving them a game that they would want to stay for. I would have to say they need to change their business model for the game.

If I were the chief developer, first thing I'd do is fire every single person on my team and hire all new employees. One thing I would definitely NOT do, is have the same group of people that ruined the last game work on the new game, lol.

This sums it up quiet nicely, they aren't interested in making improvements to an already released game because this means spending money on something that is considered ready and done budget wise. Apart from a few major fixes that are required not to fall into the trap of getting sued (class action) for delivering broken products. People leading the teams will mainly focus (as they were told to) on releasing new (copy-paste) games, as many as possible, within the shortest time span. Only because this generates the most revue for the business and since people still buy everything that is released, also get away with it. The state of the products isn't relevant anymore, people are used to buying overpriced stuff to throw away again shortly after, which is sad but true.

I don't expect that in the future you will actually see big publishers go the other way and create something that is extremely fun to play, interesting for developers to explore their abilities. The current situation is that everything is owned by financial institutions as shareholders and they are only interested in acquiring more money, lots of it. And this also applies to the persons that are in charge, at some point they just aren't pleased with what they got, they just need more (of the same).

As for the game we have today, besides some bugs that appear at times I do think it still is fun to play. But I don't expect anything from it, only play it to spend some time. Whenever you play as if it was work and expect to get 'payed' in rewards I can only say you will be very disappointed. It is just not how it works, in any game, it never was.

Realistically, if I was a dirtbag corporate slave only interesting in turning Division 2 profitable until Division 3 or whatever launched next year?

Battle Royale mode using the existing DZ maps. Minimal developer time needed. PVP balance is already trash, so no effort needed there. But you KNOW the PVP community would suck that up like golden god crack rock.

The PVE guys would cry rivers. But you know what? Right after that you release survival mode. Again, re-using existing assets with very little actual new design required.

    Now...the kicker:

Make the final reward of each game mode a chance at a unique new exotic or cosmetic...or both. And run seasons(1 or 2 months max) of limited time cosmetics that you sell in the store after the season ends and they're not longer available.

That's what a dirtbag scum-sucking corporate slave to profit would do. Maximum profit for minimum effort. And the community would love me for it.
