Couple opf reasons
1. When I am playing a game, I prefer to be able to play it without waiting for my kids to be in bed - yes I could wear headphones, but I dont want to.
2. Swearing is childish, the idea its cool, and what cool people do is just so 1990s - even ironically, swearing is for violent situations, not the kind of dialog in a video game where no violence is occuring in that scene
3. It would be so easy to have a filter where you could turn off swearing, simply bleep the subititles when there are profanities - they are in text format. For the audio its just as easy as the cut dialog can be tagged.
4. When I worked at Ubisoft Montreal I worked on the backend web services. We had a profanity detector and would prevent words from being used for usernames, messages etc. How dumb is it to have a filter like that and tell everyone how great you are, then make your own games full of profanity ? Dumb as Dumb as Dumb.
I think my issue is that I always apply my own lore to my operatives, so it's weird when one that I've deemed "wholesome" drops an f-bomb.
For example, I've never once heard my Clan Kelley captain swear, though I'd imagine she'd be more likely to than my innocent-looking, older doctor who swears at the drop of a hat. Overall, I don't mind it because I'd be a hypocrite if I did, but I think in those situations, it feels misplaced.
I've never noticed any swearing in game, Having being born in Hammersmith(London, England) to an Irish Mother and Scottish Father might have something to do with me having a higher tollerance and acceptance which has grown over the last 50+ years.
The game is Rated as 18+ and does State Tere is also frequent use of strong language, including 'f****' and 'C***'

I do agree with the point, There Should be a Filter so you have the "choice" to hear bad words as there may be times when children, visitors or the local vicar may come round for Tea and Scones with your mum and your sat in the corner of the living room Ramming a copper into a wall with your stolen Arbiter then doing 90 down oxford street knocking over men women and childred while shooting the S*** out of the filth persuing you.![]()

It actually makes the dialog sound cartoonish and childish.
It adds nothing….
It’s the classic scenario of believing simply adding swear words makes the dialog sound more edgy and like a Tarantino film. Which is absurd.
I have a pretty ok tolerance for swearing IF it sounds authentic and fits the context and NOT forced.
In this game it feels forced. Like the writers were told to push profanity as hard as they could.
It just ends up hurting the dialog and story.

I think you may have missed the Bug Podcasts and the text files collected on the way throughout the game - the whole story is talking about Brexit and how that was manipulated to put us in the kind of future depicted here - a cautionary tale that cuts very close to the bone.Originally Posted by Hank_Pank Go to original post
