    PS4 - Disc Won't Launch

I've been having this same problem on & off since last year. I insert the disc & my PS4 can't 'identify disc'. Based on a google search, this is a common problem! One solution suggested I hold my ps4 on it's side when i insert the disc, this worked a handful of times. Now I can't get the game to launch AT ALL!!!
I have a gold edition & the season pass(which I've played all of once before this problem arose).
I'm unable to open a support case(because live chat is the only option & it's currently unavailable....), so here I am.
All i want is to play my game!!!!

Hello MelancholyChild, welcome to the forums and I'm sorry to hear about your game disc being unable to be read.

Have you tried it on another PS4 to see if there is a problem with the disc itself?
Do you know what region your game disc is and what do you have your PS4 console region set is?

    Please try the following -

-Make sure you are using the original official PS4 internal hard drive to install the game on as some games wont register on other external drives
-Delete any previous game data and save files as they may be corrupted.
-If you have the console vertical, try laying it horizontally on its side

Next, do you have your Playstation console you are playing on at the moment set up as your Primary Account?
If not, please setting up as your console as your Primary PS4 console in the system settings -
Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4 > Deactivate > then select Reactivate

Next, please try restoring your licence to the game by navigating to Settings> Account Management and select Restore Licenses

Let your console finish restoring licences to your game, then see if you are able to launch the game without issue. Let me know what happens next?

I don't have another PS4(why would I?) to try the disc in.
My ps4 has never been altered or customised in any way, so yes it's the original internal hard drive I'm using.

I assume my disc is whatever region Aus game discs always are... as I bought both the ps4 and the game in Australia directly from EB Games(in store) & I have no idea how to check if the disc & ps4 having matching regions.... but as the game has always played fine.... I'm gonna assume they're the same.

I've tried it with the console vertical AND horizontal, neither helped.

I Restored my licenses, also didn't help.

I have deactivated & reactivated my 'primary ps4' setting, for now, it seems to be working.....(however, once or twice, when i've turned my ps4 on for other things, streaming mostly, over the last two weeks, the disc HAS registered.... so it could just be a lucky moment & nothing to do with me fiddling with settings...).

Hopefully it continues to work, because i have no interest in deleting all my saved data.... that's insane.

Hello again, thank you for getting back to us.

Trying a disc with a different PS4 is a very common troubleshooting step, as it helps us narrow down whether the issue is specific to the disc or the console. Usually we ask players if the check with a friend or family member if they have a PS4, however that may not be possible due to current world events.

This almost certainly either a physical fault with the disc or console. The only way to narrow this down further would be to try a different PS4 console with your disc, or a different disc with your console.

Let me know how it goes!
