Seems like the most sensible approach at this point, I might pick it up in a few years down the line when it's 5 euros and as close as it will ever get to a finished product, if at all.Originally Posted by TreFacTor Go to original post
That what this "we'll make it work eventually" development philosophy gets them.
$60 for 15hrs of gameplay? Wow they really need to look at how other developers are doing it right, because they are doing it completely wrong.Originally Posted by TreFacTor Go to original post
Not that it's an excuse but WD:L is still a result of their vision pre-Breakpoint. Remember, it was originally supposed to launch just a few months after it so it was well in development already before they decided to delay it. Makes you wonder what exactly they removed, etc. during these last 7 months or soand how much worse it might have been. ......assuming they made any changes at all other than "polish".
I think FC6 will be the one to watch now that it's been delayed possibly into 2022. ....although that may have been a victim too of the same bad decisions depending on when they started development. Even so, that's assuming they really, truly learned from these mistakes they've made. A big part of me thinks they still don't get it though.......how it all went wrong.
They could gift it to me and I wouldn't DL. On the lookout for some other developer to fill my niche and there really isn't anything so far.Originally Posted by Grundged Go to original post

Alright, so I’ve put a LOT more time into the game now and all I really have to say is this - if you’ve ever played a Ubisoft open world game within the last five years...you’ve played Watchdogs Legion. It has ALL of the Ubisoft tropes (enemy outposts, tagging enemies so you can see them through walls, lots of collectibles, etc.) that you’ve seen in pretty much all of their games by now. In particular I got really strong The Division vibes just running around London.
The game as a whole feels very dated. Movement and world interaction feels stiff and awkward at times with rough transitions into and out of animations like when you’re climbing on things or pressing Y/Triangle to interact with something like a computer. Combat is generally unfulfilling with really basic and repetitive unarmed combat where there is nothing new to learn or get better at after your first fight. Shooting feels very floaty and imprecise also making weapon based combat feel like something that should generally be avoided. NPCs will also do extremely weird things like starting fights with the player character while doing something like shopping, blinking into and out of existence (sometimes getting launched past the player at extreme speed), or massive traffic pileups will occur for no reason at all.
Visually the game is also very dated looking. Character models are usually pretty weird looking (particularly faces) and have the exact same visual style as a game like The Divison or even Breakpoint. Character customization is extremely lackluster with a general lack of clothing options in the stores particularly in terms of colors. This often brings up the conundrum of finding something you like from a style standpoint but it might have a really ugly color scheme or vice versa. There are also sometimes some really weird clipping issues like backpack straps phasing into and out of your character’s model while running down the street and such.
The big gimmick of the game, being able to recruit ANY NPC, is absolutely a gimmick. It can be fun to look at all the different bios and backgrounds of the people you meet on the street but it gets old quickly with very repetitive occupations (never knew London had so many brick masons). Characters generally play exactly the same with really only minor differences in terms of animation sets and speed.
Eh...I dunno man like the game is certainly playable but it is not memorable or special in any way. It can be a fun way to kill some time but I also really feel no drive to get back into it and complete it.
Thanks for the review, Dan!
I was teetering on WDL----but I'm out now (especially given the widely reported ongoing PC performance issues). Maybe when it gets to the bargain bin. If there is one thing GRB has taught me---it's Caveat Emptor------be VERY wary of pre release Ubi PR claims and design choices.
