I did notice something that should have been pretty obvious last night. My two alt characters don't get played so they each had stacks of unused points on their watches.

Only because no matter the prize/Reward i don't think the season are interesting enough to play no matter what i gain from them.
Sorry for a little negativity but playing the same old content with modifiers is not my thing, i know i probably stand alone on this but hey, thats the way it is.

Unlike new content (i.e. missions, open world, modes) this would require minimal development effort. Named item caches already exist, and changing the reward track to substitute them for the material caches should be easy enough.
Well I think that stuff is there for the new players with 4 characters on my watches alone I can replenish supplies immediately - component food and water are all i have to go looking for - at some point you only going to be doing it for the challenge nothing wrong with that - just give me a new bobble to hang from my back pack and I'll do it.
