Not sure why the Devs insist on the Flame turret being so crap/sht, it is the least used and probably the worst skill item in the game.
Iv'e wanted a real Pyro build but the flame turret is so bad i never touch it.
Even if they don't extend the range of it let it be like the Assault turret (self/Auto activated)
Iv'e asked for this many a time yet never get even a we can't or don't want it to be good response (not sure why the Devs hate the flame turret so much)
It's not as though it'll be OP, if they are scared about it in P v P/DZ's then disable it or make it pointless in those modes, but let the P v E side have some crazy build fun with it.

I have a full skill build which i use alot wanted to use the Flame turret, as an example or two
My Assault turret is on a 10 second cooldown/Automated and does about 120K damage a time and a duration of 210.2 seconds (3 and a half minutes approx) Health 5.6 million
My Flame Turret is on a 28.3 second cooldown does 44k damage and 172k burn damage has to be manually targeted and a duration of 28 seconds, Health 5.6 million (with the same build.
Even my sniper turret outdoes the Flame
Cooldown 9.4 seconds, Duration 350.4 seconds(5 and half minutes approx) Damage almost 3 million health 5.6 million
The flame turret is the worst one to use.
Hmmm....second worst, that healing trap is the worst skill in the game, how that was ever released to live just show the incompetence of the devs and there ability to read the community and put in place skills the community wants, everyone was hoping for the old heal station of D1 days but no they give us a ****ty heal trap you have to get out of cover to break FFs and stand in for a short period of time to get the heal effects......who in their right mind thought this was a good idea......
