PC vs Console
The differences between the two make it impossible to properly balance the game.
Light spam, an issue on console, is NOT an issue on PC. Believe me. I own For Honor on both PC and Xbox One.
Making light spam weaker would effectively make all light attacks pointless on PC because they are already not that hard to parry. Making light spam better effectively makes them terribly powerful on console due to unreactability and effectiveness of spamming.
Defense is so much stronger on PC than Console, and offense is so much stronger on Console than PC.
The problem is Framerates combined with Input Lag.
Higher framerates and almost zero input lag on PC makes defending far easier, thus making offense far weaker as well. You see more, and you can react at the absolute last second to attacks.
Lower framerates plus a decent input lag on Console makes defending far more difficult, and as a result, you guessed it, makes attacking far stronger. You see less, and you must respond a noticeable amount before things actually hit you. If you respond the instant before, you will still get hit because the game takes a moment to recognize your inputs, and by the time it does, you've already eaten hits.
These issues cause an incredible amount of strife between players here in the forums and elsewhere on the internet because issues that PC players encounter are not the same issues as the ones that Console players encounter.
Turtling is still an issue on PC, while spamming is still an issue on Console. Fixing these issues on one platform effectively makes them worse on the other.
On PC, I find it TOO difficult to land strikes, while on Console, I find it too easy.
Next Gen consoles have the potential to bridge these issues and properly balance the game.
This is because they are supposed to have similar input lag as PC and they have higher framerates than current consoles, but they will have uniform framerates capped at 60fps. PC should be capping for honor at 60fps as well, and that way we could see crossplay between next gen consoles and PC since they will be (for the most part) on equal ground.
It would also be far easier to fix light spam issues and turtle meta issues simultaneously with both PC and Console experiencing the same issues.
As it stands now, the devs seem to be trying to keep everyone happy, but as I said, fixing an issue on PC makes issues worse on Console, and fixing an issue on Console makes issues worse on PC.
It's quite literally impossible to balance the game properly with the differences between platforms.
Well, I used my xbox controller so I'm not sure about keyboard and mouse controls, but the framerates and reactivity are both very nice, but defense is still too viable on PC, especially with people able to run 120+fps who can reaction parry neutral light attacks.Originally Posted by Empire_880 Go to original post
I was able to parry light spammers, but only if they used multiple in a row, whereas I met a number of players in only 1 day who could all parry light attacks on reaction from neutral. It felt a bit cheesy that I couldn't even land a neutral light to start a chain. They also always knew when I would feint or commit to heavy attacks and would parry all commited heavies and then just stand there with no reaction on feinted heavies. It honestly felt as though I were fighting against a scripted bot, except I've been told it's rare to find cheaters in For Honor, so I concluded that defense is OP on PC.
As a matter of fact, I caught a few light parries that left me wondering, "wait, I parried that?!?" Thinking there's no way I just parried that. Lol
If For Honor is too offensive now on console which I'm sure most experienced players have concluded. Then Next generation consoles would what, make it too offensive? It is a fine line. If lights are reactable people complain the game is to defensive. If they aren't people complain it is too offensive. It seems to really come down to whether lights are reactable or not to determine the off/def state of FH. It is basically impossible to satisfy both sides and in this I feel bad for the devs. Either spam is an issue or turtling. Next gen FH will most likely leave lights reactable again but barely for most (I'm not sure?) Then what, people complain again and they hide more ms. I don't want to see For Honor constantly tweaking the core combat. What I want to see is Ubisoft giving heroes the buffs and nerfs they need which should be blatantly obvious in the case of certain heroes. Giving every hero and unblockable or bash somewhere in their moveset would go a long way to promoting offense while making attacks more reactable would improve defense in discourage mashing. I think this would be a good step in the direction of balancing defense and offense. Proof that every hero needs an unblockable and/or a bash is that probably the two most complained as weakest heroes (PK and Shinobi) have either none of these or a very reactable one in Shinobi's case. And the most complained for strongest hero (HL) has the strongest bash mixup in the game and a very powerful unblockable and all from neutral. Bashes and unblockables dictate a major role in offense in FH. Fix these and heroes should be more balanced.
ohhhhh that makes sense. in that case, zones seriously need to stop being able to parry. if you activate a zone, then thats your input. option selects are a silly thing to have in a game like for honor. without such reliable option selects, things wouldnt need to sped up to being unreactable.Originally Posted by allenhollow Go to original post
no, next gen is increasing framerates and improving input lag, so if anything, defending should be a little easier on next gen consoles.Originally Posted by Rasboy29 Go to original post
Agreed. Every character must have an unblockable attack as that adds a potential mix up to their kit.Originally Posted by Rasboy29 Go to original post
Yes me and my friend were talking about this the other night. Warmonger, highlander, kensei, orochi, glad, conqeuror (i dont need to go on) can light spam you and controllers on console have input lag. Everytime I come on this game I always moan about the same thing: 'I am flicking my stick where I see the damn flash and I'm not blocking it'. No it's not that I have slow reactions or my controller is broke. First initial lights are blockable as are many follow ups. But when you get caught in a chain (like orochis lightspam) you have to kind of pre block by flicking your stick where you think the next attack comes from before they throw it to block it (when your eating hits) due to input lag. This is why orochi (amongst other heros) are cheap heros. I completely agree. PC and Consoles need addressing individually. Sadly however this will never happen because it will cost too much money for ubisoft 💩 I dont have the game on PC but it doesnt take a genius to understand you are right about PC too
BIGGEST PROBLEM of For Honor is SPAM. I mean not on this forum but ingame. The inability of developers is visible in almost every match....
Warmonger ... just two button spam = WIN. Conquerors, BPs, Warden and many others.... no skill only spam unblockables. I am disconnecting every match where player use 3 times spam in a row and matching only skilled players. It is sad that developers have no quality team to make a balanced game.
After 4 years we have more spam, more knockown, teleport attack, dancing moves and other stupid features. What will be in the next year? ,
