I am a swords guy. Don't enjoy using other weapons in games. From the first reveal of ACV I just assumed the promotional materials cater towards Axes because its a "Viking" weapon, but now, with the boom in footage, I was certain I'd see one handed swords so I can play with a sword and shield... and I actively looked for swords.... but none was showen anywhere. So I went back to all the promotional materials where i "though" I saw swords and discovere I was wrong. they were all Claymore swords, or two handers. Not short swords nor any type of one handers.

I am so disappointed. How could they include hammers and flails, which were much much much more rare and far less used, and somehow forget short\long swords - The most common weapon at the time of the game?!?

You can Duel wield shield, but you cant use a one handed sword? seriously?!?!

Dude... I did NOT mean that. What I was trying to say is that you had a good eye catching there's no one-handed swords because
I hadn't noticed until you brought it up.

I dont say that they didnt exist, but there were something like one or two swords by clan. In the late viking era they were more common.
The predominance of the axe comes mainly from that fact that before being a weapon, it's also mainly a tool.

Now that being said, as said by many others before me in this thread, it would be silly not to have swords in the game, especially as we have flails and hammers, two weapons vikings almost never used during the whole viking period...
(yes I know, Þór's hammer blabla, but no, except the god, no battle hammers for vikings. I'm pretty sure that not a single warhammer were found by archeology in northern europe. They are almost as legendary as the horns on the helmets )

And a game about vikings without Ulfberht swords, cant be a good viking game!

I do agree with you and even though there's this one from the CGI trailer.

Doesn't mean there are going be featured. I mean, so far I've yet to see one of those in-game wise. Let's cross fingers.

I know what you meant, mate. Thanks

And I think this sword in the CGI trailer was a way to convey a finisher, which is using an enemy's weapon against him.

Thre are daggers and one can use the greatsword in one hand if he has a shield, but doesn't count.

I can't believe you can weaponize a shield and even dual wield shields but you can't weaponize an enemy's sword.

I can't imagine an AC game without one handed swords since they have been in every single version ..... It's kind of like the bows, they are hardly ever in the promotional material yet there were great bows in both Origins and Odyssey and I expect the same here ...... I'll do as I usually do and go with an archer build because that's my strong suit but when it comes to melee I expect to use a sword in my right hand and an axe in my left and rarely use a shield except on the rare boss where it's a necessity ..... I didn't miss shields one bit in Odyssey since I really didn't like them in Origins because they slow you down so much although they look a bit more agile in Valhalla whereas they were kind of clunky in Origins

I bet that the weapon animation for 1hd swords is the same than for 1 hd axes (even if technically it should be different)
It's then quite easy for them to add a sword, if it's really not in the game (I have difficulties to believe it)

Final revelation in 25 days from now

Are there any screenshots or footage of Eivor using one handed viking swords?

I've been scanning youtube videos of this and the only swords he seems to use are two handed great swords. The one handed Frankish type of sword is a pretty iconic weapon of the Viking age so I just want to know.

i think in the part 2 of the current playthrough of gameriot his eivor uses the one handed sword of an enemy to kill him, but it was an "animation", thus no real combat. but i wuold assume that it will be possible, they just didn´t showed it off yet? It would be a bummer if it´s missing, it is kind of my "benchmark weapon" to compare the combat systems and animations in all games, since i usually just free roam and unleash on enemies a bit with it in every game.

Again, would be a bummer, but i fully plan on going all in on the chained mace type, since Septimius wielded it i want it so bad...

Unfortunately I think that kill in the gameriot video was just part of the stun attack animation using your enemies weapon

It is possible, yeah. Although i wouldn´t count anything out yet. Darby stated explicitly in the AtA Interview that there is a possibility to visit Vinland after completing certain tasks and that would be on some unspecified behalf of the order since they went to Vinland ahead of the Vikings (they did so around 1000) and in Rogue there was a collectible on pearl Island (which can very easy be a part of vinland) which is related to vikings and medium length one handed weapons

The only way we havent seen a one handed sword class while i IS in the game, is if it only becomes available in later zones, but this idea makes little sense for a few reasons:
    1) Every OTHER weapon type seems to have been available to the previewers. why is THAT particular one not? it seems like the game wants to allow players to pick their favorite weapon right at the first zone. so if there is no 1H swords at level 20, I guess it wont be, period.

    2) we havent seen any promotional material of eivor using this weapon.
This isnt a conclusive falsification of my claim there are no 1h swords since promotional materials haven't shown daggers and spears either. However, I HAVE seen both in gameplay vids. not 1h swords though.

Has anyone seen footage of anyone using a claymore sword with a shield?
