    After high end gear. ???.

I'm coming across gear for example a harness called Strikers harness, the colour is a marine green, I've got all my gear matching in this colour. Except weapons which are all exotic, is this part of the games natural progression process.

Yes, those are Gear Sets. Look for ones that have a folder icon on the upper right corner on the icon. Those are classified. The gear sets allow you to run like pieces for a specific bonus. Early in the end game you'll have to mix and match. Note that non-classified only go to 4 piece bonus so once you get 4 pieces, use two from another set for a minor bonus.

Just know "Exotics" are not necessarily better than yellow weapons, and in many cases are far inferior. Theres a few winners in there, Big Alejandro, Hungry Hog, The House, Showstopper, Bullfrog, some of the other exotic weapons are decent, but most of them are trash. Dont get hung up on 'Oooh exotic". Talents are the main thing that make a gun good or bad, that and how it handles. You pick talents that fit your build and playstyle, rather than 'exotic'.

Couldn't agree more with what Knight said above.

To add to that, I will say one of the very best exotics one can get as a drop early in the end game is the Ninja Bag backpack. It allows two or more different gear sets and it "slots in" making any/all of the other equipped gear sets act like it has two of that type. As you can see by the quick chart I made of the gear sets below. Note that you can also use 3 of one set and 2 of the other plus the ninja bag and have the 4 piece bonus which are where, in my opinion at least, the sets start to get more potent. However, note that it will NOT give you bonuses past the 4 piece gear sets even if every other piece is classified. Early in the game, it is great since most don't have much for gear. Later, after you've played the game for a while, you can make some quite interesting builds. Even though on my original 2 accounts I have all the sets on all 8 characters, it is still fun to mix and match, particularly with skill builds. In the chart below, I put them in a rough personal opinion order for gun play builds.

For instance say you have a Ninja Bag backpack equipped and have just one of these other gear sets you could end up with 4 of these boosts:

    Alpha - 100% Health Regen
    D3 - Protection from Elites
Nomad - 15% Health on Kill
Predators Mark - +10% Reload Speed
Final Measure - +25% Exotic Damage Resilience
    Lone Star - +100% Ammo
    Striker - +20% Stability
    Sentry's Call - +30% Accuracy
    Hunters Faith - +20% Range
    Tacticians - +15% Skill Haste

For general PVE, I don't think these two are worth having in the 2 piece. For PvE in a group, a full electronics Firecrest 6 piece can be brutal if you place it right.
Firecrests is +3 Incendiary Grenade Capacity
Banshee - +20.0% Looted DZ Funds
