New Free-to-Play Game Brings Best Qualities of Ghost Recon Franchise Online
Ubisoft has announced the development of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online, a new multi-player, third-person, cover-based tactical shooter that will be offered free-to-play online. Ghost Recon Online is developed by Ubisoft Singapore, and offers all the best qualities of the Ghost Recon franchise in a downloadable, dynamic, PC-based online game. Ghost Recon Online launches in closed beta beginning this summer.
With Ghost Recon Online, Ubisoft is delivering the most social, connected and customizable Ghost Recon experience yet. The game offers players the ability to choose between three different classes of Ghost, customize their weapons, deploy cutting-edge military technology, and share intel with their team. Ghost Recon Online also features a rich lobby platform for hosting social and persistent progression features. Ubisoft also will back the game with a full set of services, including regular events and game content updates, customized content based on community feedback, and live support.
The online features complement Ghost Recon Online’s rich graphical environments and maps, which rival the quality of those traditionally seen only in retail games. And while the game is free for anyone to play, players also can purchase premium items and fully personalize their experience.
Players can sign up for the closed beta and find more information on the game at www.GhostReconOnline.com.
Ok seen this coming. So either its a really bad design choice or its a stripped down version of GR to appeal to more caual players, hence the free to play aspect.
All GR games on PC have been first person view, so it makes no sense to capture these fans with a different viewpoint. Thats why Im thinking its for casual players who really dont play other Ghost Recon games but might think the idea is cool.
Its too early to judge but alarm bells are starting to chime.
If its as bad as it could potentially be, it further emphasise the need for all developers of Ghost Recon games to talk to the fans directly. This could have been a great idea, but it probably will end up being a mess. Reserving judgement but not very excited about this announcement.
Don't mean to read alot into a paragraph but 2 + 2 is often 4.
Just to be absolutely clear... this game is under an entirely different team to those working on Ghost Recon Future Soldier. The development, announcement and release of this game has no impact on the development of Future Soldier.Originally posted by Kaiskune:
the fact that you are pushing this... 'Thing' instead of focusing on the item that is well over a year and a half LATE does not inspire confidence in either your company of those meant to be working for it
are you trying to get served over fraud?
If we are LUCKY, it won;t even make it to release. Oh... wait... that would require that Ubisoft CARE about their products and/or their customers.
Not going to happen. Oh well, I might look at it, if I need a good solid laugh someday.
Bets on how long until they implement microtransactions into their regular titles?
With CoHO, even at it's peak, there were fewer players than with the normal retail version of CoH, and combined with the far smaller number of paying subscribers than THQ had thought there would be, meant that the project was financially unsustainable, so THQ pulled the plug, and let Relic get back to developing the latest patch for CoH, and push on with CoH 2.Originally posted by buzzcocks:
They did the same thing with Company of Heroes, I predict this will end the same way.![]()
