To earn points for a specialization tree, just activate the specialization and play with it active, and that earns you points for that specialization. Pretty much the same method as standard skill trees for a lot of MMO games. Go to the specialization counter in the BOO (Base of Operations) (You can do this in either White House or Haven) and select the specialization, then looking at the menu at the bottom press the key to activate the specialization. On PC I believe it is "F" by default.

Also, bear in mind you ONLY need to do this ONCE as long as you save a loadout with that specialization. Out in the field, specializations are tied to loadouts, so if you have Technician assigned to that loadout, then switching to that loadout will activate technician on that loadout when you switch to it.

Hopefully I worded that right ... the night's getting long here LOL.
Thanks. I saw something about research which sounds a lot like puzzle solving. Kill a boss after destroying her lawnmower? lol

OH! Yeah for specializations from WONY you need to either do those in order to unlock them, OR I think you can purchase them via the season pass from the store. I don't think the pass is needed though because the tasks for unlocking them are definitely doable (I have the pass but did the unlock missions anyway for the cosmetic rewards). I'm not home at the moment to access my game, but I thought Technician was one of the basic specializations.

I'd write down the procedure for doing the projects for the unlocks on WONY specializations, but without being able to sit in front of my game to see what I am writing about, I don't want to steer you wrong, so hopefully someone else here chimes in on that one before I get back home.

And there are two separate tracks - the one you mention here was originally the method used just to unlock the specialization. However, purchasing the Season 1 pass unlocked all of the specializations for me and this track now opens weapon skins, some type of named weapon, and some other random items.

The other track you do actually levels a specialization by activating it and using the weapon in the world. Missions, bounties, and capturing control points will give you points to use in the skill tree.

With regard to the Technician specialization - aside from the +10% skill damage increase, you also gain increased damage to drones, warhounds, an other enemy tech (RC cars) as well as, (and this is my favorite) +1 skill tier. I use the bonus skill tier to add weapon damage for survivability. My main skill build is 2 Hann U, 1 Wyvern, 1 China light (explosive damage), BTSU gloves (exotic), and a Fenris chest with Unbreakble. All pieces, including the Fenris, are specc'd for skill haste and skill damage. Skill haste in all mod slots. I use a FAMAS 2010 with damage to targer out of cover and In Sync talent and a Police M17 rifle, also with In Sync. This build is specifically designed for my preferred play style with the stinger hive. With +4 stingers in the mod slot, I have 18 stingers doing 1.13 million damage each and 56k bleed with a refill rate of 1.1sec per stinger drone. I can get all 18 stingers back in ~20 seconds. With the BTSU gloves, I can deconstruct the hive and get them back in ~10 seconds and reset team member hives if on cool down. This setup is also useful for the chem launcher as it also uses refil rate rather than a cool down like seekers.

The hard wired set is great for skills with a cool down rather than refill rate. I have two clan members that run four pieces of hard wired with a shield and seekers. Throw seekers, pop shield, throw seekers... and they do this with devestating results.

Thanks. I think I figured it out. Looks like it will take some time to fill the tree so I'm not going to waste time on the boosted toon. I'll wait for my legit one to hit 40. The boosted toon will become a mule in the future. I took my new toon from level 6 to 12 last night. Might be a few days til it's 40. It helps that the new toon has level 40 loot to sell. lol
