I'm relatively new to this game. I'm trying to figure out what stuff goes great with each Spec. I do already know at least one gun and skill goes excellent with each spec since they in the tree for the Spec but witch two other guns should I increase the damages on and what other skill will allow me to get the best out of the Spec. I already got an idead of what guns would go great for three of the six Specs—all three rifles for the Sharpshooter. LMG, Submachine gun, Assault Rifle for the Gunner, and the Firewall, I would say Shotgun, Submachine Gun, and sidearm. So any ideas or tips on each Spec would be great. Also, where should I put my points into the three newer specs?
At the end of the day, it's up to you.Originally Posted by gamer2075 Go to original post
For me ar works great with Sharpshooter, but the armor plate of gunner is stronger... it's all depend how you play.
I like to use EP with firewall... other will say no. (i use fire)
Honestly they are not that important, there are some obvious prefferences for some of them, such as sharpshooter with rifles and snipers as well as gunner with LMG and any other automatic weapon. The rest are honestly fair game so don't worry about that. I do use shotguns and SMG for Firewall, and shotgun, AR and pistol for survivalist for fun really
That REALLY depends on what build. The only specialization that has specific weapons that are really required to be optimal is Sharpshooter. Rifles and Marksman Rifles are required to get the most out of it.Originally Posted by gamer2075 Go to original post
Other than that, each specialization has a lot of different uses. You're better off finding a weapon or set of skills you enjoy using, then pick a specialization based on that for your build. So what might be more useful to you is to tell us what types of weapons or skills or playstyle you prefer, then the community can suggest some builds to try out. I'll give my general opinions on each specialization though, so you have something to think about.
Keep in mind that the following is just my personal preferences and experiences. It may not reflect your own, and I don't claim that I have perfect answers for everything. I'm sure someone else will have completely different views on things. The best way for you to learn is to try out a bunch of different stuff, and settle on what you find most comfortable to play. Because when you do that, you'll be more powerful and effective than any meta build that doesn't fit your playstyle.
FIREWALL:
Honestly, I think Firewall is garbage all around. I know a lot of people like it for shotgun builds because of the shield. But if you're using a shield I think you're better off going with Technician for the extra skill tier. Theoretically you can get more damage from the Firewall shield buff under perfect conditions, but I think having a more durable shield is the better general option.
Firewall is also used for some Vile+Eclipse Protocol burn builds using sticky bomb or chem launcher, but solely for the extra burn talent. Literally nothing else in firewall really helps it that much. And again, Technicial has the +1 skill tier and 10% skill damage on offer. Survivalist is another contender for burn/status builds.
Overall, any weapon will work with firewall. But for shield builds you'll want to use a shotgun since the short range and bullet spread will match the short area of the firewall shield buff. The SMG and ARs are better served with technician or gunner, IMO.
GUNNER
It's pretty self-evident: LMGs, SMGs, ARs. My personal favorite is the Negotiator's Dilemma using a high rate of fire SMG like the Vector. It takes a little getting used to, but once you wrap your head around how to fully make use of the marked targets, it will let you kill anything at any range.
But the new Hunter's Fury set with an SMG is borderline OP. You'll be getting 30% armor on kill, ridiculous amounts of SMG damage. High rate of fire, fast reloads. Throw in the Memento Backpack and a Sokolov piece....uhg. You'll basically be mowing things down with little effort.
ARs, SMGs, and LMGs are niche builds compared to those two. There's a case to be made for 3pc Striker, Coyote Mask, a Glass Canon chest with Contractor's gloves + LMG, or a Fenris piece with an AR. But overall I think it's probably weaker than either of the above two builds. The main advantage will be shooting at longer ranges. A Police M4 or Famas will basically be laser beams, and the Bullet King or Pestilence would dish a lot of consistent damage.
Shutguns, Marksman Rifles, Rifles, and pistols are going to not really get a lot out of Gunner besides some slight increase in RoF and reload speed. All things that aren't really strengths of those weapons.
TECHNICIAN
Technician is a jack of all trades spec, IMO. The extra skill tier has too many applications. And there are enough drones, warhounds, and mini-tanks out there to make the extra damage talent VERY useful.
Bulwark Shield builds can be made almost invincible with the Artificier hive. Add in the new TU11 pistol that gives a skill tier, and you could also add more blue or red cores. Although a lot of people prefer the Liberty exotic pistol for shield builds, if you can do the raid the Ravenous is probably better DPS. Personally I can't stand the Liberty because of the kick it has. And I like the higher RoF that the KARD-45 has anyway.
Otherwise you can use any weapon with Technician since it's primary strength comes from skills and not weapons. But it's important to note that the Spotter chest talent can combine with the Laser-Pointer weapon attachement on most ARs, some LMGs and SMGs, and even a shotgun or two IIRC. The only weapon class I'd really avoid while using Technician is Marksman rifles because they're just better off with Sharpshooter.
DEMOLITIONIST
Simialr to Technician, Demo is mostly a skill build specialization. You might be tempted to try and make a build using the Merciless rifle because it does explosive damage. Don't. Just don't. It's a trap. That rifle is garbage.
You'll be better served using a weapon with Future Perfect, or perhaps In-Synch. But the real strength of the specialization is the Mortar Turret, so your choice of weapons should be something you can use to support that when enemies get too close, or just go with the Skill Tier Pistol. Because you'll be doing so much explosive kills that you'll actually be able to use your specialization weapon regularly. You might be tempted to augment that with Tip of the Spear, but I don't think it's a very good choice, and I'm not even certain it works correctly.
SURVIVALIST:
Honestly, I don't have a lot of experience with this specialization. It's not something I use very often, and my overall opinion is that it's largely a spec only used for gimmick builds. Status builds and healing are better served by Technician or Firewall. Shooting builds by Gunner or Sharpshooter. The only really halfway interesting build I can think of off the top of my head is using Acosta's Go-bag, fire grenades, and the Mad Bomber talent. But even that isn't really very effective, IMO.
There is a VERY strong case for a group-oriented support build using a Marksman Rifle and the Opportunistic talent. If you can get status effects on enemies, you'll give your team 10% extra damage against them from the spec, and another 10% from the Opportunistic talent. Blinder Firefly to apply the status, and something like the booster Hive.
I have not tried this personally, but there's a close-range version using Hunter's Fury and a Shotgun. Although in a group situation, I can't imagine you'd last long enough at close range to play the support role that you could do from extreme range with an MMR. Still, if you can pull it off: Stunned enemies that are taking 20% more damage from all your teammates might be a good thing. But I suspect you'd spend a lot of time face-down without a dedicated healer keeping you alive.
SHARPSHOOTER:
It's pretty obvious, right? Rifle or MMR.
There are a surprising number of different ways to get it done, however. The meta is a Classic M1A with either Focus or Headhunter talents, Fox's Prayer kneepads, a crusader shield and Vigilance talent.
Personally I feel like the Covert SRS or an SR-1 have much more steady aiming. But if you have a Mantis, that's probably the easiest entry point for learning headshot builds. Special note is the White Death MMR, since it has ridiculously high headshot damage.
The Headhunter talent is extremely powerful if you're good at landing chains of headshots, and is best served by a traditional single-shot MMR with high damage.
Otherwise you might actually be better served by using Focus or Perfect Focus combined with Aces & Eights and a semi-auto MMR. Either way, look into Sawyer's Kneepads to add some extra kick to your shots, since you'll often be engaging from extreme range and not moving very much.
Also, keep in mind most MMR builds are going to be using either the 8x or 12x or digital scope. Each scope has a different style of target sight, so that could make more of a difference to you than you might think at first. And IIRC, the digital scope from the specialization has two zoom levels. Hit the scope button a second time to switch.
Also, beware of tunnel vision. While you're zoomed in, you can easly miss being flanked.
I just started this week. I boosted a character and went straight to NYC. I'm bringing a level nothing up in DC at the same time.Originally Posted by Sircowdog1 Go to original post
Anyway, as a big fan of Tactician in TD1, Demolitionist is my favorite. I leveled my toon to 40 and worked on a build before going after the warlords. It's a skill damage and skill duration build. My drone is like having a team mate that's stronger than me without scaling the NPCs. It lasts whole encounters with the help of my hive. Me and the drone just melted Dragov and his two shield goons in a few seconds. No other NPCs even spawned. They came out and it was over. lol
So yeah, going forward, my game play and build will be centered on the drone and Hive. Maybe drone and turret. I might try the mortar turret since you mentioned it. Thanks.
The drone is indeed a powerful tool. However, there's some thing that you should know about it:Originally Posted by mckrackin5324 Go to original post
1) If you kill a Warhound and the drone is within the radius of the EMP, it will take damage or die, and not work while it's disrupted.
2) If you're outdoors and there's smoke, rain, or fog, the drone will have problems targeting things.
3) The drone often gets stuck in terrain, or bugs out and stops attacking. Just something you'll have to deal with.
The Mortar turret:
1) You can blow yourself up. Do not shoot yourself or stand in the radius of an explosion. You will die.
2) When you use it, any teammates you have will suffer a screen-shaking effect. Groups hate it! So only use the mortar when solo.
3) Double click the fire button to lock the target circle to a spot on the ground. Double click again in a new spot to move it.
4) The mortar does explosion damage, but also has a short bleed effect afterwords. You can use this with Eclipse Protocol + Vile to cause lots more damage.
Welcome back mckrackin. I personally run a Technician Assault Turret/Striker Drone build and love it. It's 3 Hard Wired, 2 Hana-U and 1 Wyvern Wear pieces. Talents I use are Kinetic Momentum and Tech Support. Weapons are an AR & LMG, both with In Sync. All stats (Skill Damage and Haste with Duration Mods in the slots) on my gear are maxed out and it kicks ***.Originally Posted by mckrackin5324 Go to original post
good to see another old TD1 player on here againOriginally Posted by mckrackin5324 Go to original post
what build you running with demo ? 4 hard wire ( sometimes the talent on backpack dont proc! infact most of the time ),1 wyvern and 1 hanu - weapons Harmony and LMG with in-sync.( i do switch out the hard wire for 3 Murakami, 2 Hanu and 1 wyvern and honestly i feel this is stronger )
I just started the game this week. My build is all high ends. I haven't had any gear set stuff drop yet, except for the few pieces you get after killing a warlord. Don't even know what to do to find gear set stuff.Originally Posted by Sn0wBaaalL Go to original post
