Why is a thread about improving FC's sniping mechanics derailed into a discussion about old people in cyberpunk? My lord, the stream of consciousness posts of a rambling loon.
I will reiterate one way I belive sniping would be much improved would be to go hard on a gore factor, but Ubi tend to stay a little too PG with their game's violence even though they're typically getting M ratings anyway...
Rambling loon?
I even don't know such words.
Every post is a stream of consciousness.
You're writing what you think about the subject or about the post above.
The main thing - it shouldn't be a stream of unconsciousness.
And,yes, better to stay on topic and not go too far away.
But ,sometimes, discussing some things or answering to someone you may derail from the topic.
We're not robots to walk the given narrow line.
Sometimes that line can be expanded.
Nothing terrible! Only, later, you should return back to the subject.
As for gore and snipping....
Frankly speaking I've never been a fan of some super-gore in Far Cry.
You're shooting with a sniper rifle, for instance......and brains realistically splashing out.
Guts out of stomach, eye fluids spreads across the face and so on.
Such things are more for horror games.
Not for Far Cry.
Far Cry should be for everyone and some extra realistic gore.......It's not good, for me.
May be I'm not bloodthirsty enough but gore is not what the game should be about.
Never said gore should be 'what it is about,' only that a better depiction of the violence that will be in the game would improve not only the sniping experience but the combat experience as a whole. Combat in video games is far more satisfying when the consequences of it are depicted in a manner that convey brutality. Far Cry is not nor should it be "for everyone" they're 'M' rated games, all I'm suggesting is that they better utilize the rating they're going to receive to benefit the gameplay experience. We're talking about an M rated first person shooter here, not Super Mario FFS.
Im not sure there is sniping in Super Mario but in any game where there is a sniping mechanic, comparisons can be discussed in relation to Far Cry sniping mechanics. Im not bothered too much about the animations after shooting, more about the scoping up, reloading times, scope steadiness, accuracy and how powerful the weapon is.
The mario mention was just in reference to the depiction of violence. Point being, Far Cry isn't a kiddie game, the violence and gore aspects could be enhanced to improve the game's combat and gameplay experience as a whole. As I said before, I'm not much of a sniper myself, consider them a "coward's bow" as I've come to call it, haha, but as I said before I think that improving the game's gore effects would enhance the sniping experience as well as every other aspect of combat in general.Originally Posted by TripleTau Go to original post
i also do not normally care for sniping but if getting headshots resulted in head explosion i may be more
i am mostly using assault rifle and shotguns in far cry games with a rocket launcher once in a while for handling vehicles and things
if something can be done that would benefit both the sniping and other forms of combat i also support this

To fix Far Cry sniping especially from FC5, you would also have to fix the range issue of this game. It says something is 100m out and acts like it is 300-500 meters out. After seeing 500+ meter shots in Wildlands, having Ubi bring back the short ranges of FC5 was very disappointing.
Honestly, once you get a bit of time in FC5, you realize that you only need a silenced 1911 pistol, a bow(explosive arrows main reason), shovels, and other thrown explosives, to fairly easily complete the game. This means all the other guns are just for flavor and personal liking.... which is why when my son and I did our no death run, you die and the game is restarted from beginning(hardcore and then did a run on Infamous) we used 1911, 50 cal sniper, m60 and a bow with thrown weapons.
We also did Bow pistol and thrown weapons without any health unlocks....but didn't do those no death, considered trying, but decided to give the game a rest.
Yeah, Ubi needs to fix the range issue, and I think that would fix much of the issues with sniping and not needing more guns. Why use a AK47 when a 1911 is better and you also can carry the M60.... which is two better gun options as they are both effective over the ranges in the game, whereas if you made it available to shoot 500 meters, then 1911 wouldn't work, and maybe the M60 isn't accurate enough, but you also have the mid ranges opening up then too.
yes it was odd that far cry 5 especially suffered from decreased range levels considering even first far cry made by crytek many many years ago had better implementation of long distance attacks with sniper rifles or even rockets
i would very much like to see ubisoft make strides to improve on this not only for sniping but also just for more general recon purposes so that we may better plan our attacks although i do not think far cry 6 will be the title to amend these issues
