    DPS Cap or Bug?

    What is going here?

When I use the shooting range against elites, I run a simple test. I only measure against body shots on the front target (which by the way, it sucks that the targets pop up randomly vs being able to control the distance, because some damage is distance based, and this is the test range right?). Anyhow, I kill the front target which takes less than one magazine, so I stop firing on kill. I changed variables below and ran the same exact test as described. You would assume if you change your build the numbers would change, and while the individual hits change, the overall DPS remains the same, not similar, not close, but the exact same number.

    First Test
    60 chc / 211 chd / 88,354 weapon damage
    crit hits register at 371,199k
    dps is 4,320,182

    Second Test
    47.5 chc / 211 chd / 90,063 weapon damage
    crit hits register at 378,378k
dps is 4,320,182 (same exact number as above)

    Third Test
    60 chc / 194.5 chd / 90,211 weapon damage
    crit hits register at 360,281
dps is 4,320,182 (same exact number as above)

    4th Test
60 chc / 211 chd / 88,354 weapon damage (same as first test)
this time I hit my pulse and a my insync & spotter trigger
    crit hits register at 426,879
dps is 4,320,182 (same exact number as above)

So, is there a dps cap, or is this a bug, or am I missing something? If there's a dps cap, then seems like I need to shift resource away from CHD to blue talents or something?

I can't speak to a DPS bug or cap, but you can choose the distance on the range. Look overhead and there are several numbers - 5,10,15... just shoot the distance you want and the target should pop back up at that distance when you eliminate one.

    you just changed his life

and OP dont look at the dps , its bugged as hell , guide yourself by the body shots crits number.

This, same as the post-mission stats. They are both buggy messes that nobody at Massive apparently cares to fix as they've been broken pretty much from the start.

I'm curious to know why his crit hit number percentages are reasonably low compared to his actual CHC and CHD percentages on his build.

Not hating i just find the 300K to 400K numbers low'ish.

As an example my CHC is 38 to 51% and CHD is 148% to 153 % ATM but my crit register numbers are anywhere from 400K upto almost 770K on my AR/SMG build.

Or am i barking up the wrong tree (if so my apologies)

Dps numbers are fooked in this game, what i do is go into the shooting range and kill an enemy, if i am left with more bullets in a mag compared to the other weapon i go with the one with the most bullets left in the mag.

I know crit can play a major part in that, it's why i test it for quite sometime

    I'm weird

Could be that that is the amount of damage it takes to kill the AI target , try putting the target on Elite or higher, you should see the DPS increase

    few things..

as mentioned you should only worry about the big orange (crit) numbers.. the rest has so many variables its not worth trying to calculate or deconstruct

theres also no mention on how you are changing your weapon damage and what other attributes are coming into play when doing so

theres basically 2 types of damage.. additive and multiplicative

so even if you were to increase your weapon damage, say for the sake of damage to target out of cover.. then it can have a negative effect, because one is added and the other is multiplied

and not that it matters.. you do you... but when i test dps i use the invulnerable targets, unless im specifically testing a "on kill" talent.. but im generally after a base average not a best case scenario

all i do to change my gear is swap a piece that has different chc/chd/weapon damage number, and I'm not trying to proc all my talents necessarily, just trying to look at base difference in damage/dps

I understand the difference between additive & multiplicative and that's the whole point as to why DPS should NOT be the exact number every single time when variables change

in terms of testing DPS, my goal is to have a consistent test, you can use many different types of tests in the range, but you just have to do the same one for each test so you can see the difference
