Hi Rogere75!
If you receive the "Shadow of Death CD-Rom not found" or similar message after you start the game, please make sure that you have uninstalled any previous versions (like a demo, or the retail version).
You should also launching the game by right-clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator" (Windows Vista, 7 and 8 only).
If you still receive this message open the Run menu by pressing WindowsKey+R and type:
regedit
and press Enter.
Here look for "New World Computing", there should be an entry for Heroes of Might and Magic III and a sub-entry named "1.0". Look for "CDDrive" and modify its value to:
C:
This should make the game start without the no-CD message.
These entries should be located here:
32-bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > New World Computing
64-bit windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > New World Computing
If you still have issues after this, can you please let us know.
Are you able to run the game as admin following these steps -
- Right-click the desktop icon of the application (or the executable file in the INSTALLATION DIRECTORY) and select Properties.
- Select the Compatibility tab.
- Click Change settings for all users.
- Under Privilege Level, check Run this program as administrator.
- Click Apply
Do you have the same issue then?
Can you set up a case on our support site and upload copies of your DXDiag and MSInfo files so we can look deeper into this.
Can anyone advise on the fix for this?
Downloaded game today & got same message as Rogere75.
Managed to get onto a live chat with Ubi-agent & was told to reinstall the game which took 2 minutes, by the time it was done the Ubi-agent had disappeared. I see what appears to be an open support ticket on my profile but as what seems to be a familiar theme no option to reinitiate live chat, leave a message etc.
I dont find any solve in this thread so I guess this was resolved directly with Rogere75? Am operating as admin although I use Windows 10. I went through the Registry Editor as explained however the only files found in the '1' folder were (Default) & AppPath, no 'CDDrive'.
(Default) had a blank editable string & I changed 'Value Data' to C: but it made no difference.
