I recently played through the Apprentice Trials and Warrior Trials again, and I realised (not sure why I didn't before), that the Samurai never actually appear in the Trials. I personally consider the Apprentice Trials and Warrior Trials as canon parts of the For Honor Story, as they have fully fledged cutscenes and the Warrior Trials feature the 'good' Vikings from the Story Mode as playable characters, those being Helvar (the Berserker) as the main protagonist, Stigandr (the Warlord) as another protagonist later on in the Trials, and Runa (the Valkyrie), all reuniting thanks to Helvar's bravery of freeing them throughout the trials from the Blackstone Lawbringer that attacked their village.
However, I was thinking, seeing as For Honor has advanced and developed further into its life cycle, I was thinking that for all of the new, more advanced mechanics, such as perhaps the Black Prior's Bulwark Stance or Nuxia's Trap Ability, or even something as simple but as advanced as Frame Advantage, which is something I see alot more emphasis on nowadays than before. To top it all off, I personally think that, well, who else is better to lead the 'Master Trials' (or Advanced Trials, not really sure on the name), than the Samurai? In the lore of For Honor, the Samurai are always noted as very skilled and devoted warriors, so why not save the 'Master Trials' for the more advanced and complex game mechanics for them?
