I think there should be a new faction based on the Mali Empire, it was the wealthiest nation of the Medieval Era.
The Emperor of Mali during the 14th Century was Mansa Musa and he is still the richest man in human history.
This ruler was so famous during the Dark Ages that his image is even represented on the most important medieval European map, known as The Catalan Atlas.
It is misconception that Africans of the Middle Ages were fighting in loin clothes like the Zulu did,
The Zulu Tribe didn't even exist until the 19th Century, so they wouldn't be a good faction model for this game.
A proper representation of Medieval Africa would be the Mali Empire; and their clothing was brocade and Persian silk.
While Europe was experiencing the Dark Ages in the 1300s, it was the Mali Empire that was literally in the Golden Age.
The armor of the Mali Empire typically included fabric armor interwoven with chainmail.
Infantry were mainly armed with spears and longbows laced with a deadly poison.
They didn't wear the type of heavy armor used in Europe because the heat of the sun in the African climate would be impractical for excessive metal. Nevertheless, they wore civilized fabric and gambeson armor; the Mali Empire was not running around half-naked like some people like to stereotype.
The thread that you're referencing was a different topic and it was closed due to forum behavior which has nothing to do with this thread. This thread is specifically about the Mali Empire as a For Honor faction, which is a completely different scenario from what you're talking about.Originally Posted by Siegfried-Z Go to original post
Also, one player cannot speak on behalf of other players, I would kindly ask that you only post messages that are intellectually or philosophically relevant to the topic. The purpose of of this thread to discuss the Mali Empire and to explain why it would be a logical faction in For Honor.
*Laughs in Kim Djong Un* Also, I think being the richest man in History also clarifies you as a not so nice word (I can't remember one rich ruler who wasn't).Originally Posted by Valoredramack Go to original post
I did not know much about this faction, one or two warriors from here would be a good addition, but basing all of them on a single era's single nation would be quite a mistake. If they add this, they should leave open the faction for not just other African warriors, but for muslims too, since they come from the same/neighbouring region, and their history is just as rich. Of course, this debate is purely theoretical, we all know they don't have the resources for this, nor the popularity to make such a dedicated choice.
Quick question though, because I am not familiar with western racism and the forced morality standards that much: if they make this faction, may I play one of their heroes as a caucasian person, white white skin? That would sound something very sinful for me, something worth losing your job at the very least.
If you don't know about this faction, then why are you making assumptions? The Mali Empire already includes Muslims because it was an Islamic West African kingdom in the first place. All you have to do is watch the video in the original post in order to become more educated in their relationship with Mecca.Originally Posted by Goat_of_Vermund Go to original post
Then I was misunderstandable. I meant cultures like the Ottoman Empire, various Saracen kingdoms etc. Knights are not solely from England or France, and not even from one era.Originally Posted by Valoredramack Go to original post
You did not answer the more interesting question: would it be okay if these characters could be played as white skinned?

I don't believe that any character in this game should be gender-locked nor should they be complexion-locked.
Regarding the Ottoman Empire, you can say the same thing about Sahelian Kingdoms which included the Ghana Empire, Mali Empire, Songhai Empire, and others. They were also not even from one era. Geographically and historically speaking, that Saharan Kingdoms are prominent enough to deserve their own faction, especially considering their economic power during the Middle Ages. There is also Nubia, which included the Kingdom of Kush that conquered Egypt.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't object to having a desert-dwelling Saharan Faction even if it included influences from both Africa and the Middle East; they shared the same religion so they can share the same faction in a fictional game.
Similar to the Samurai, Knights, and Vikings, they wouldn't be named after any of these ancient kingdoms anyway.
I would either call them the Nomad Faction or the Bedouin Faction.
These terms apply to both Africa as well as the Middle East.
With this version, I think I would really welcome them in the game, and would probably add one or two new mains for my collection. Unfortunately, I do not think they will ever have the resources to pull a new faction out, nothing will guarantee to them it will sell (they made too many stupid decisions in the last few updates for that).Originally Posted by Valoredramack Go to original post
