I agree wholly with the Petition.
I mostly agree, and can't discern anything better than what I disagree with.
I agree, but only because I cannot name anything I disagree with in the document as it is.
I neither agree or disagree, yet still want to show support.
I neither agree nor disagree, and don't understand some points given.
I disagree, but cannot give a reason.
I disagree, but feel the solution posed could be beneficial.
I disagree, the petition's well-meaning and informed, but doesn't align with my own perspective.
I disagree in totality, and may intend to post my thoughts as a response.
I disagree in totality, but will not further respond.
Thanks for all the interest in the petition, I have to say though, having played the hero by now i love her, and managed to get myself off the bandwagon and take an actual look at the logistics of the hero. A lot of that post was fueled by groupthink. I'm honestly ever since making that post constantly defending her and discussing with people their gripes over her to hopefully allow them to let themselves give her a real chance, like i had to convince myself to do. Thanks again for the interest <3
Original post (for people who may need or want to see the initial views):
Preface:
I'm not going to be unfairly upset with the new hero or the fact she may be gender locked, here, I'm just gonna be honest, and true. And honestly, the Warmonger sets a precedent to ruin the game on a community level. So let me start off with saying, that, though I'm not unfairly upset with what i mentioned above, I'm more than upset about them, just rightfully so. The Warmonger was supposedly designed all but last second as a "shadow fighter" to the Warden, and it shows. Badly. My brother and I, first trying the event, thought that was just Warden, with a special event-moveset. The hero just doesn't feel new, and to be honest, I don't think Ubisoft tried to make them. Ubisoft went out of their way to do something that to anyone reasonable, would upset the community. All this hype around "two new heroes" this year, people wanted more, but then realised "Hey wait, two heroes? That's perfect to balance the roster. This year is another great chance to try to get Wu Lin into the faction war, too. That's gotta be what they're doing!". And to be honest, while that was presumptuous, those assumptions were not unfair. It just was what made sense, Two Wu Lin heroes, to set it to seven across the board, each even-split with two hybrids, assassins, heavies, and one vanguard, potentially for four supplementary vanguards next year. It made sense, it was cool, it was good. However, Ubisoft has clearly not taken that route. Ubisoft leans against the flow, and unbalances the roster even worse than just the Wu Lin being short two, by making the Knights outweigh all others, and the Wu Lin under-weighted. Ubisoft goes against the grain in what seems deliberately in disregard of community and standards perpetrated by that community, which they themselves had been the ones to set initially anyway. This is bad, and it has gone on for too long. Ubisoft does not listen to the community, nonetheless experienced members thereof. The devs are clearly out of touch with the community, and vice versa.
Substance and Solution:
Warmonger must be postponed. I know good and well, they cannot and will not remove the hero totally, They have two to three heroes that amount to being walls, but are still present. I know they won't move the hero to another faction either, so that goose is cooked. But, Warmonger is not in the roster yet, and nor should they be as they are, they represent Warden too similarly. There is little that can be done about the hero cosmetically, but they need a mechanic reworking, a new moveset more unique to the Warden, something that sets them clearly apart, potentially even make them a heavy instead of a vanguard. I don't have all the best ways to do anything, but most of us on the community end can see this was a clear misstep and needs to be amended. So what i proposition is this: postpone the release of the Warmonger so that they can more thoroughly meet a fair community standard, differentiate them from the Warden, and make their release more meaningful. As is it is expected that the release of the hero will be overwhelmingly unceremonious, both early access and full access. As much as it is no longer a surprise, and we do all love surprises, the hero just is not fit for release. Sometimes one must take a loss as it is, but this release is not yet fully lost, we lose being surprised, and take that, we can still see them released well, with community pre-release feedback, and proper effort, this hero can still be a worthwhile addition, it will never be what we wanted, but it can still be good. If possible, which personally, I don't expect it is, having experienced their moveset, change their weapon as well. The people who hate this hero do rightfully so, albeit some for the wrong exact reasons, and Ubisoft has no concept of community.
Closing Statement:
As brief this is, it is well-considered, and heavily thought-out. It's easy to see the backlash, and I will admit, at first I didn't understand it, because again, I didn't even think that was the new hero, I thought it was just an event-Warden. Which exemplifies the backlash, and compliments it to no end, I personally cannot see this being good as it stands, and I just have to say something about it. I don't expect this to be viewed by Ubisoft community managers, and even if it is, they will probably write it off. But that's largely why I feel it needs to be said, in a way as such I am saying it now. The community and developers need to get back in touch with each other, at least to a degree. So as a way of gauging community response, on the off chance, severe off chance they do see this, I am providing a poll. Please respond in some way, so that way, if they do so much as see it, they know that there is a community, and we do have a voice, and we do care that Ubisoft hear it.Otherwise, on the off chance they see it, and this has no responses or little interest, it reflects poorly on us, shows disorganisation and disinterest as a community. I've played this game for a long time, I loved it, and I do love it, but I also hate it as it stands right now. As much as I care for this game, I dislike too much about it, I know too much about it to not dislike it. Thanks for reading, and again, please respond to my poll, it should have at least one option that vaguely suits you.
I mean the hero being similar to warden is kinda normal if you want to make a Apollyon like hero.
She basically used a slightly modified Warden moveset as well.
The entire moveset is basically that, all of Apollyons move (besides running attack) modernist.
I can understand people complaining about her stance and running attack but complaining that the hero is sharing Warden animation is just utterly stupid in my opinion.
Warmonger will definitely not replace Warden in his role as the Top duelist in the game but will have better minion clear and anti gank.
Her first feat is to strong in my opinion and the devs should give it a dmg nerf even before the hero comes out.
I’m bother that the Warmonger speak English instead of Latin tho.
About the genderlock thing I just say what I think I already said a 100 times in this forum:
It was obvious and the people who are bothered by it are to few that Ubi would actually care because it’s to much work just to please a minority.
Not to mention that they most like are already busy with the second hero and new content.
Really the only things that really bother me on Warmonger are the stance, the running attack and that she apparently will speak English.
Outside of these things I’m kinda happy about the hero.
I get where you're coming from but I don't agree with most of what you said and here's why:
- Players did ask for an Apollyon hero for a long time.
- Players wanted another Knight hero instead of a Wu Lin. There are many anti-Wu Lin players in the community.
- Warmonger is probably genderlocked due to:
- it being an Apollyon character
- the pandemic slowing down the art team and others concerned
While I've also felt that Ubisoft has gone against the grain many times, Warmonger isn't an example since it's more of a case that they can't please every one. The core combat changes show that they are gradually coming around to common feedback with the focus on anti-light-spam. The main things wrong with Warmonger that I see are:
- the borrowed animations
- the overpowered tier 1 feat.
Should Warmonger be delayed? No. I and many others are looking forward to the new hero. Animations can be updated(when possible) and the male build can be added later if the demand is great enough. For now, they should focus on balancing the hero, polishing the next one to avoid further backlash, and balancing the new core combat updates.

1. Nobody cares about the Wulin. If they would say they disband it completely, place the five Wulin in a "factionless heroes" roster, and would start to fill it up with heroes of other cultures, that would probably satisfy the players. The fourth faction just has no weight in the game, and Ubisoft probably realized that by the end of the year when only the Wulin hero's release left, hype really died down. If we would make a popularity poll about your overall favourite faction, Wulin would be dead last. Making a new popular hero, modeled after the only decently written campaign character, is a wise marketing choice. For example, I did not care at all about the upcoming hero, and I am suddenly hyped for her now that I know it's a knight.
2. The similarity in fighting style to Warden, is also very bad reasoning. She is a Vanguard for sure, but she fights completely differently from Warden. She is a hero who presses forward, is very aggressive and almost completely focuses on offense. Warden is a hero who is built to control the area and spacing of the combat by forcing the opponent to play his game. In pure 1v1 capacities, she is more similar to the new Centurion or Lawbringer than Warden- just watch a competent Warden fighting, then check how this hero fights, I honestly find almost no similarities in their movesets. She is definetely one of the best fighter designs they ever created from 0, probably second only to BP (of course, it will probably be polished a bit on the run, but the 1v1 design really looks very powerful, but not overpowered. Let's not talk about the feats' current state).
3. Knights have very similar armor in-game because they sticked to realism. While there were many advancements in European history, the core design worked on battlefield, so for first glance, they are similar. Black Prior's armor is from the 800s-900s, Conquieror's is from the early crusades, Warden's from the 13-14th century, Warmonger wears something from the 14-15th century, and Lawbringer wears the last advancement of armor what was made, and what was remained on the battlefield until firearms made them obsolete. Peacekeeper, the fantasy rogue, is the only hero who sticks out. Kensei and Orochi also wear a very similar armor, and their weapon is the same, one is the battlefield, one is the ceremonial/selfdefense version. If they would have armored Nobushi like in the trailer where the Warlord kills her on the cliff, or Shugoki like actual Kanabo wielding samurai, then they would also look like the same. Samurai, and especially Vikings, are just anime/fantasy characters, so of course they could have been a bit more creative with their looks. Wulin wear more realistic armor, and to be honest, excluding Shaolin, I wouldn't be able to tell which armor is for which hero. People used what was practical, and the more realistic you remain, the harder it is to make totally different armor and weapons (I actually can't think of any European medieval weapon that is not very similar to something already in the game).
I definitely have issues with the new hero mainly the lack of distinction from Warden and the obviously OP tier 1 feat but I have to say to ever have had the expectation that there would be back to back Wulin heroes this year or ever is a bit absurd. It should be common knowledge that the Wulin haven't been well received and so much so that Ubi seems to have abandoned them entirely leaving them a husk of a faction. Now I do understand if you like the faction the fact they have been put to the wayside would be upsetting so I'll give you that but its not realistic to expect them at this point to put alot of focus into something that isn't likely to be lucrative.
Not totally sure why people don't like Wulin I am sure its a mixed bag of reasons. They didn't really get a fair chance at launch being so barren of outfits, emotes and executions. It doesn't help that a few of their design and audio choices make the Wulin characters kind of annoying as well. Ill admit that for some reason Jiang-Jun is probably my most hated hero to fight against or to even have on my team. I also wonder if actual real world issues involving China plays a roll with their extreme overpopulation, ground zero for deadly viruses and their near monopoly on manufacturing because they are willing to treat their population like insects.

personally i like her to speak english, i love latin as a language but, i kinda feel like if i can't understand what she says, it's kinda just 'noise' from a certain sense. I'd dig if more heroes spoke, and in language that was understood by the player, not always specifically english per se ofc. And since my initial post my opinion has changed pretty vastly, im happy with the new hero myself, and the initial dislike was primarily just bandwagon. I like her running attack too, don't know much to say in regard to the stance though.Originally Posted by Gaser. Go to original post
